Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, and will be responsible for preparing detailed labor, materials, and equipment takeoffs, as well as accurate cost estimates for a variety of projects. This role involves close collaboration with construction managers, engineers, vendors, and other departments to ensure accurate and comprehensive project estimates.
ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed and accurate labor, materials, and equipment takeoffs.Complete detailed cost estimates for projects of various sizes.Collaborate with construction managers, engineers, vendors, and other personnel to discuss and formulate estimates.Build and maintain customer and vendor relationships.Review documents to develop a clear and detailed understanding of project scope.Work closely with the operations team to relay key project scope information during proposal review meetings and at project turnovers.Solicit subcontractor and vendor pricing and ensure scope inclusion.Assist in the maintenance of bid documents (plans, specs, RFI, addenda, quotes, and proposals).Procure best pricing for subs and vendors, review quotes for accuracy and compliance with bid documents.Identify project risks and opportunities and bring them to the team for review.Comfortably attend and participate in scope review meetings with clients to answer any questions.Essential Skills3+ years of technical experience in mechanical, plumbing, and/or fire protection systems.Strong technical background in mechanical, plumbing, and/or fire protection systems.Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to work well under pressure in a rapidly changing environment.Fantastic organizational skills and great follow-through on tasks.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Autobid Mechanical, and Bid Tracer.A commitment to learning and following key safety protocols on-site.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in estimation, construction engineering, and construction management.Expertise in HVAC or plumbing, ideally running projects from $200k-$20mil.Experience running their own projects.Estimating software knowledge.Experience in preconstruction and commercial construction.Ability to stay with the estimating team long-term and help grow the department to bring in more work.Work Environment
