Job Description
The primary responsibility of the Construction Estimator is to obtain all relevant project specifications, determine the most appropriate building materials, and secure favorable pricing on all resources. The Construction Estimator is expected to also inspect trends in construction to determine whether Company estimates are both reasonable and competitive. The Construction Estimator is responsible for producing timely estimates and winning projects based on these estimates.
ResponsibilitiesCollect and review all bid and contract documents including geo-technical reports, technical drawings, and project specifications.Analyze plans and other documentation, meet with clients, and, if applicable, inspect the construction site to fully understand what work is required.Decide on the most appropriate labor and material resources for each project.Obtain multiple quotes for each subcontracted trade and major supplier.Negotiate with service providers to secure better prices.Outline the schedule to gauge how much time will be needed to complete each development.Send RFIs during the bid process.Perform risk assessments to account for potential deviations from schedule and/or budget.Draft proposals with costs and time frames.Identify, develop, and implement (with appropriate approval) cost savings initiatives and value engineering opportunities for improvement.Troubleshoot construction issues with appropriate staff and work to resolve problems as required.Create a preliminary schedule.Perform project buyout.Finalize proposal and submit to the client. Assist with subcontract agreement.Upon successful award of the project, discuss project scope and subcontractors with the project manager.Other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsMinimum of 10 years of estimating commercial construction projectsMinimum of 10 years’ experienceKnowledge of Sage Estimating or equivalent estimating softwareKnowledge of ProCore, Bluebeam, and Office365 programsAdditional Skills & QualificationsKnowledge of OSHA health & safety requirementsUnderstanding of blueprints, drawings, and specificationsThorough understanding of the construction trades, means, and methodsStrong planning and organizational skillsMust be accurate, diligent, and analyticalWork Environment
The role involves working closely with construction documents, utilizing various estimating software, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders. The position requires strong analytical and negotiation skills to ensure cost-effective project completion. The work environment is dynamic, involving both office work and site visits to understand project requirements.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $53.00
