Estimator - Substations & Utilities

ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Black & McDonald is actively seeking a Utility Estimator to join our South Ontario Utility Region team. The successful candidate will lead the team’s analysis of costs and preparation of electrical / civil work take-offs and estimates on Utility and Substation projects. They will provide technical support to project operations, with emphasis on Electrical / Civil estimating, reporting and monitoring progress, planning, and scheduling and handling project change.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Prepare estimating of Design-build / EPC utility grade construction turnkey project, including the cost of Engineering, labour, equipment and materials for the supply and installation, with a focus on substations, renewable energy projects (wind, solar, battery storage) miscellaneous high voltage works. Preparing electrical / civil / structural take-offs for all labor, equipment and materials assigned to the project, based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specificationsAnalyzes tender RFP, documents, drawings and specifications, proposals, addendums, legal requirements in preparation for pricing Collaborate and Develop relationships with Engineering, Operations, PM and Clients staff, key Subcontractors and other stakeholders as required Negotiate with vendors, subcontractors and trades and develop detailed quotations Pricing from Suppliers / Subcontractors and incorporates into estimate, 5Updates and maintains Bid2Win Software and database Participates in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, and project closing, as requiredPrepares and maintains a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractorsAttend site visits and develop a scope of work Manage the tender and construction processes and provide recommendations on improvement opportunities, alternative solutions, material selection, and construction feasibility Developing project schedules and Work Breakdown Structure Ability to prepare bid submittal write-ups in collaboration with proposal team, in accuracy and completeness of tender submissions. Conducts Bid Closing, Bid Handover, profitability analysis and Lessons Learned meetings as required Create and maintain a costing database for future budgeting Handling multiple projects estimates simultaneously, with short deadlines

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Degree or Diploma in

Construction Engineering Technology Construction ManagementElectrical EngineeringCivil / Structural Engineering

The following certifications/designations are considered an asset

Electrical trades backgroundField Experience as a Project Coordinator or equivalent role

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

3-5 minimum years’ of estimating or field experience on utility or substation construction projectsHigh Voltage installations experience

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Proficient user of:

MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)Bid2Win or Accubid
