NBC News Digital is seeking a knowledgeable and ambitious editor to oversee and cover international news from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. London time (2 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET). This role will require a journalist with experience writing and editing major breaking international news, day-two follow-up pieces and features for a U.S. audience. The successful candidate will have a background in foreign news and a track record of covering major global issues, events and ongoing storylines carefully, precisely and with sweep and context. The person will be well read and well informed on global affairs and thrive on dealing with fast-paced news developments, bringing to life a swiftly changing world and America’s place in it. The editor should be able to write and edit elegantly crafted articles that cut through assumptions and stereotypes.  This person will take the handover from the London-based international desk Monday to Friday. It requires someone who can, when necessary, work independently or in collaboration with digital and broadcast colleagues in New York, Washington and around the world.  On any given day, this person may take over writing or editing the live blog about the Israel-Hamas ceasefire. On another, they may work with a network correspondent in helping turn an international broadcast package into a print article for NBCNews.com. Or write a piece of major breaking news. Or edit a day-two feature from an international reporter based in London. The person will report to the Assistant Managing Editor for International News, who is based in London, and will work closely with senior editors based in the U.S.  The role is based in London or New York and is hybrid, with the expectation that the person will be in the office at least three days a week. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES + Edit and write foreign news swiftly and accurately. Be well read and informed on international affairs. + Stay on top of international events with an eye toward breaking news, developing smart angles, explainers and features. + Collaborate with reporters, producers and correspondents in bureaus in the U.S. and in the field to turn raw reporting into compelling digital coverage.  + Be an excellent communicator across various platforms, and work with colleagues throughout the organization with professionalism and cordiality.  Basic Qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. + At least seven years experience as a reporter and editor in a newsroom environment, and some of that time in a digital newsroom. Desired Characteristics: + Clear and engaging writing and editing style. + Proactive and creative reporting style. + Decisiveness and ability to work independently when necessary. About You: + A track record of success in editing and covering global news for a U.S audience. + Demonstrated ability to take feedback and guidance and exchange ideas with colleagues and managers professionally. + A real collaborator who can leverage NBC News’ global network, working with digital and broadcast teams in London and elsewhere around the world.
