Evidence Technician (Firearms/Toolmarks) (3239)

Eagle Harbor, LLC, a subsidiary of Three Saints Bay, LLC, and a Federal Government Contractor industry leader, is seeking an Evidence Technician (Firearms/Toolmarks).

 

Responsibilities:

The Firearms/Toolmarks Unit (FTU) of the FBI Laboratory is responsible for receiving items of evidence submitted from the FBI, State, and Local law enforcement agencies to conduct forensic examinations of firearms, ammunition components, toolmarks, serial number restoration, gunshot residue, bullet trajectories, and other closely related physical evidence. As part of the evidence received, the FTU enters cartridge cases and test fires generated from submitted evidentiary firearms, as well as test fires generated from firearms submitted for destruction into the National Integrated Ballistics Information Network (NIBIN), which is a national database overseen by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). NIBIN is supported by over 156 laboratories and police agencies, all of which upload images of cartridge cases to determine if an association exists with crime scenes and provide investigative leads. NIBIN is a standalone network operated by the ATF. The FBI operates under an MOU, abiding by the ATF regulations for entering and searching samples. The Evidence/Toolmark Technician will process, and test-fire firearms being received as a part of casework (evidence) or the disposition process (non-evidence), which includes entry of information into various FBI and ATF databases. Disposition includes tagging of firearms with a Radio-Frequency Information (RFID) Tag. Generate research samples for the on-going research the FTU is conducting to include test firing of weapons and labeling envelops with the appropriate information. Prepare various chemicals used in the processing of evidence for gunshot residue and serial number restoration. FTU Program Management support includes:

o   Evidence Inventory, Control, and Management support.

o   Evidence Processing.

o   Analysis of Evidence.

o   Perform Instrument Performance Checks.

o   Perform Reagent Checks.

o   Assist with Research for 3D/Additive Manufacturing Technology.

o   Assist in Research for Virtual Comparison Technology.

o   Assist with Administrative/Quality Assurance Processes.

Maintain FTU space in an organized and professional manner.

 

Requirements:

US Citizen Ability to pass a pre-employment background check Active (fully adjudicated) Top Secret Clearance Bachelor’s degree in a physical science discipline. Must possess highly developed professional skills in several disciplines and have considerable flexibility in completing work assignments. Skills required include database entry using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Power Point). Must be able to communicate fluently verbally and in writing, in English, at the bachelor’s degree level, be able to understand and execute complex verbal and written instructions in English, be able to express complex issues verbally and in writing in English. Must be competent in operating an IBM-style microcomputer in Windows and/or UNiplexed Information Computing System (UNIX) environments. Must be able to discuss complex technical issues in English, using a telephone. Must be competent with Microsoft Office products in a Windows environment and be competent with computer file management in Windows and/or UNIX environments (creating and deleting files and directories, finding, renaming, copying, and moving files, etc.).
