Job Summary:

The Environmental Services Team Leader is responsible for performing duties in accordance with established organizational policies and procedures for providing a safe environment, achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors, and staff. Supervises an area of responsibility for the EVS department; ensures a consistently high level of environmental hygiene and aesthetics to patients, visitors and staff. Monitors work flow and gives instruction to EVS Technicians as well as ensures adequate coverage for all areas and other Oswego Health facilities. Responsible to cover for EVS Technicians as needed. This position also is responsible for daily oversight of regulatory standards, financial stewardship of department operations and collaboration with other management and supervisory team members to support the department in its daily functions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Supervises Environmental Services team members, shifts or specific areas. Supervises the necessary resources needed for the Environmental Services department under their control and makes recommendations to hiring, promoting and annual staff performance reviews. Supervises a waste program that separates, packages and disposes of all waste according to all regulations Performs quality improvement initiatives under direction of EVS manager. Conducts rounding activities to ensure environmental hygiene in all areas assigned. Prepares necessary reporting to manager(s) and document results. Demonstrates working knowledge of the cleaning and disinfection principles and requirements, proper chemical, equipment usage, and labor requirements for maintenance of furniture, furnishings, interior finishes for all areas of responsibility. Provides oversight of inventories, usage data, and ordering of consumable supplies and equipment repairs Prepares master work and time schedules, under the direction of the Manager, coordinating vacation and holiday time and reviewing daily adjustments in the work schedule. Adheres to all organizational safety, risk management, and infection control and prevention standards. Promotes a culture of patient safety through observation and education. Coaches team members on the chain of infection and the core principles of the transmission of infectious pathogens. Responds to emergency calls and multiple priorities as needed to coordinate staffing changes and minimize disruption. Conduct patient and staff interviews to evaluate service levels and promote positive public relations. Actively participates and contributes to efforts to improve patient experience and cleanliness scores and key departmental performance metrics. Controls expenditures within sphere of approved budget objectives. Take corrective action when variances affect budget. Maintains confidentiality in all patient, hospital, employee, and physician information. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities (Unit Specific):

Knowledge of know how to operate EVS equipment and products such as tools, cleaning chemicals, floor maintenance materials, and powered equipment required. Mechanical ability and technical knowledge required for operating powered equipment and the initiative to the most rigid care requirements. Familiarity with standard procedures used during the execution of assigned duties and the cleaning of an isolation or biologically hazardous area required. Excellent customer relations skills and the ability to work independently.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED preferred. Valid NYS Drivers License and reliable personal vehicle preferred. One year of supervisory experience managing staff preferred. Floor and carpet care related experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

Requires driving of personal vehicle to multiple Oswego Health locations as needed. Must be available to cover weekends and staff shortages as needed.. Ability to work 4 to 6 hours standing, walking, moving about without needing to sit down. Frequent pulling, pushing, and bending and ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 100 lbs. using proper body mechanics and/or available equipment. Ability to sit, bend, crawl climb, reach, lift, or kneel for prolonged periods of time to perform cleaning tasks; often requires twisting and/or turning motions. Requires use of hands and/or feet for routine cleaning. Exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, dust, dirt, radiation, and repetitive motions. Requires assembling, using and maintaining all department equipment. Environment includes working indoors and outdoors, low and high temperatures, loud noises, fumes, and confined areas. Utilize techniques of body mechanics for personal safety. Follows principles of infection control and standard precautions while performing job functions. Actively participates in Quality Assurance programs and CQI, in-service programs, cross-training; accepts assignments to other units/shifts as hospital needs require; attends all mandatory classes as required; completes unit-specific competencies. Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations

Pay Range; $18.00-$19.50/hr

Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
