The department of Information Technology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Executive Director, Business Applications. The Executive Director, Business Applications (A) directs and leads the University's business application delivery and improves operational processes while supporting critical business strategies by directing the development, implementation, and maintenance of application systems. The Executive Director, Business Applications Platform will be responsible for management, oversight, and maintenance of the University of Miami’s Business Applications, including but not limited to Workday (HCM, SCM, ORA, and FIN), StrataJazz, Laborlytics, and other business applications. They will provide effective communication and direction in the oversight of business applications. The individual provides technical support to the application and provides an analysis of system requirements and specifications. They provide the necessary experience and knowledge to ensure all aspects of the applications integrate with the other cross functional applications utilized by the organization. This position reports to the Chief Business Applications Officer and collaborates with other managers and directors. In this role, it is essential to maintain open lines of communication with leaders in the organizations to set proper expectations. The ideal candidate is familiar with a variety of healthcare and academic industry concepts, practices and procedures. They will rely on their extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, lead and direct the work of others and have a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Formulates business application architecture plans, estimates costs, and ensures projects meet strategic needs.Establishes policies and procedures that ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations and support efficient operations.Leads and develops a team of business application delivery programmers with training in the best practices and technologies.Uses knowledge of the field to keep software, techniques, and tools up to date.Manages resource planning and decision-making.Drives stakeholder satisfaction by delivering quality applications and support with controlled and planned change management.Communicates project status to various levels of management.Partners with leaders of other disciplines to ensure proposed solutions align with information, technology, infrastructure, business and security architectures.Provides oversight in standards adherence through reviews of project work including detailed technical specifications and application code.Ensures internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets, compliance with University policies and procedures, reliability of internal and external reporting, and efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Creates an effective control environment, conducts risk assessment, implements, and monitors controls.Department Specific Functions
Work with leadership for development of competitive strategic plans to achieve the University of Miami mission of excellence. The Executive Director, Business Applications Platform will work with leadership on strategic issues facing the University of Miami by determining and detailing potential feasibility and profitability of a project(s), growth and expansion opportunities, and other operational activities current and future.Work with leadership to implement effective strategies and tactics to improve stakeholder experiences and outcomes related to satisfaction and quality.Responsible for the infrastructure and integrations associated with University of Miami’s business applications including on-prem, vendor-hosted, or hyperscaler hosted solutions. Responsible for the development/maintenance of Information Technology strategic planning, workforce and resource allocation, while maintaining a forward-looking vision and strategy.Work with IT, HR, Supply Chain, and Financial Leadership to outline day-to-day support requirements.Responsible for keeping senior leadership informed of technology barriers, advancements, opportunities, and resource requirements to execute on strategic initiatives.Recommend remediation plans and execute associated action and follow-on support plans independently.Responsible for the supervision, management, and coordination activities for assigned enterprise-wide information technology projects as well as for ensuring an efficient and timely conclusion.Oversee the analysis of end user department workflow, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with software as they relate to system design and build decision.Oversee the build, test, and debug activities for the business applications to ensure the system meets end user requirements.Oversee the coordination of software updates and changes.Responsible for attending applicable professional meetings, workshops, conferences, and seminars to keep abreast of technological market advancements.Maintain membership in applicable committees and supporting sub-groups.Other duties as assigned.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant fieldBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferredERP Certifications required (Related to Relevant Applications Above) preferredMinimum 7 years of relevant experience10+ years of experience in Business Applications, with a focus on academic or healthcare systems and processes. Experience in project management and leading cross-functional teams is preferredExperience in major systems development and implementation, as well as mentoring and leading analyst, system engineering, and programming teams preferredKnowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Knowledge of business and management principles.Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
