The Position:
The Executive Director of US Laboratory Operations is responsible for leading testing operations at Veracyte’s high complexity CLIA laboratories located in San Diego, CA, South San Francisco, CA and Austin TX. Veracyte’s laboratories operate 7 days per week across multiple shifts leveraging advanced laboratory automation, molecular technologies, and laboratory information systems (LIS). The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring sufficiently trained staff and qualified equipment to maintain testing turn-around time, production, financial and quality goals. The Executive Director will collaborate with Veracyte’s product development teams to oversee the transfer and validation of new testing methods and workflow improvements and will also be responsible for leading the sustaining team. Additionally, the Executive Director will work cross-functionally with the quality, supply chain, software, and finance teams to implement process improvements.
The Executive Director will also perform various duties delegated as a CLIA technical and general supervisor including providing scientific/technical oversight and troubleshooting and various additional duties as described in 42 CFR § 493.1451. This individual will be responsible for ensuring staff compliance with applicable regulations, CAP, CLIA, CA, NY and other state licensing agencies. This position is onsite based in San Diego, CA.

Operations and Business Oversight Establish and lead a talented, diverse team of technical and non-technical laboratory staff to achieve quality, service, and financial goals. Implementing processes and procedures to maximize laboratory productivity, efficiency, and quality. Ensuring sufficient qualified laboratory equipment is available to meet production goals Partner with supply chain and facilities team to ensure sufficient inventory and space is available Accessible to operations and all other departments to provide consultation and support as needed Partner cross-functionally with supply chain, facilities, and IT/software teams to ensure the laboratory has the necessary resources and infrastructure to meet production goals. Analyze operations and generate metrics on an ongoing basis to build a continuous improvement environment Technical & Scientific Leadership: Develop KPIs, operational metrics, and present regular operational updates to Veracyte’s senior leadership team Provide deep technical expertise and guidance to the laboratory team, collaborating with product development to transfer and validate new tests and process improvements. Leads the sustaining team including hiring, talent development, and prioritization of troubleshooting activities, data analytics and trending, and process improvements. Oversee the execution of the quality system to meet CLIA, CAP, and other relevant regulatory requirements. Establish, track, and publish appropriate quality metrics to support continuous improvement initiatives. Financial Management: Develop and manage capital and operating budgets based on strategic business objectives. Approve and track all clinical operations expenses relative to budget, ensuring financial discipline and accountability. Who You Are: A minimum of 10 years of CLIA/CAP molecular laboratory operations and/or LDT test development experience, including the following experience: 5+years of experience in a leadership role responsible for multiple shifts and/or multi-site operations 2+ years of experience in developing and validating new molecular diagnostic test with a deep understanding of solid tumor FFPE-based testing 5+ years of experience preparing capital and operating budgets. At least 1 year of laboratory training and/or experience in molecular diagnostics Proficient in Microsoft Office with experience in LIS and management reporting. Experience managing multi-site operations BS/BA degree in a relevant scientific field (chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science) from an accredited institution required. A Masters or Doctoral Degree is highly desired Active California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Generalist or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) License strongly desired. Ability to travel 30%.Other Skills and Attributes:
Deep technical expertise in molecular diagnostic test development, validation, implementation and operations. In-depth understanding of policies, processes, and procedures necessary to perform high quality high-complexity laboratory testing. Experience managing high volume cytology and histology laboratories. Knowledge of quality systems and ability to evaluate laboratory performance, formulate remedial action plans, and evaluate random and systematic errors as needed. Ability to always maintain the clinical laboratory at a level of inspection readiness.#LI-Onsite
The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units. Veracyte is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
