About Us ShelterCare provides housing, behavioral health, and a continuum of wraparound services for individuals and families in the Eugene/Springfield area who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. We serve a highly vulnerable and diverse population with complex needs. To do so, we work as a trusted partner with a network of community service providers and local, state, and federal governmental entities. Founded in 1970, ShelterCare's services have evolved over the years in response to changing community and client needs. Our staff and valued volunteers support an average of 1200 people annually on their path toward stable housing and independence. ShelterCare, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has an annual budget of approximately $8.2 million and employs a diverse group of close to 65 staff. Our team is dedicated to ShelterCare's mission and values, and to delivering the compassionate and high-quality services needed to resolve homelessness and improve lives. The Opportunity ShelterCare is seeking an experienced and collaborative Executive Director (ED) who is eager to join a talented team and lead the agency in its successful next chapter. This individual should bring a deep commitment to our mission, programs, and the values that drive our work, and an awareness of the complex community needs we meet and diverse population we serve. The new ED will lead and empower ShelterCare's highly capable leadership team and staff. In addition to providing oversight of the team and operations, this individual should be enthusiastic to assume an active role in fostering community partnerships, expanding the agency's visibility, and playing an active role in fund development efforts. ShelterCare's next ED will work closely with our experienced Board of Directors and management in shaping a new strategic direction for the agency. While ShelterCare has strong program fundamentals and excellent staff, the funding environment has shifted in recent years. Looking ahead, we see a need to diversify our funding base and build new revenue streams. We also see an opportunity to incorporate more rigorous financial analysis into strategic and operational decision-making, to support our path to sustainability and growth. Far too many people in our community face complex personal challenges that include homelessness and mental health issues. ShelterCare's next Executive Director will join an inspiring team to help address these challenges and change lives. The job is fast paced and rewarding, and requires an individual who is a strategic thinker, resourceful, and adaptable - and has strong leadership and management skills. The Ideal Candidate - Experience and Capacities ShelterCare is seeking an Executive Director with the following profile. + Strategic Leadership. Collaborative and resourceful, with capacity to successfully lead a complex organization and talented team of experts. Skills needed to shape a coherent, unifying, and sustainable organizational strategy, turn vision into measurable goals and action, and guide positive organizational change. Ability to build trust, motivate, and empower others and hold them accountable. + Nonprofit Organization and Management. Demonstrated experience in overseeing programs and operations (finances, human resources, data, facilities, etc.), supporting colleagues, and fostering high-performing teams. Solid financial skills, business acumen, and the creativity to rethink how things are done and lead efforts to improve efficiency and effectiveness. A track record of working well with and further building an engaged nonprofit Board of Directors. + Fundraising and Community Building. Proven fundraising skills and the ability to envision and develop new revenue sources. Experienced in successfully establishing and advancing relationships with funders, partners, and others in the community. A compelling speaker who is prepared to represent and advocate for ShelterCare, inspire support, and enhance the visibility of our agency and the complexity of community needs we serve. + Culture of Care. High emotional intelligence and a great listener, who strives to understand others, wherever they're coming from, is able to have difficult conversations, and builds bridges across differences.
