Executive Director of Security Services
**Job Description** **Location:** Chicago, IL **Hospital:** RUSH University Medical Center **Department:** Security **Work Type:** Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0) **Shift:** **Shift 1** **Work Schedule:** 8 Hr (8:00:00 AM - 5:00:00 PM) This posting will be available until 11:59PM on 11/7/2024 Rush offers exceptional rewards and benefits learn more at our Rush benefits page . **Summary:** Provides strategic direction and oversight to the Security Department of Rush University System for Health including the Hospitals, University, Ambulatory Care Network sites, and the Medical Group locations. Develop and execute security strategies to safeguard the Rush facilities, assets, and personnel from internal and external threats. Ensures effective leadership, management, direction and administration of operations for all related areas. Serves as primary liaison to associated City, State, and Federal law enforcement authorities. **Other information:** **Required Job Qualifications:** • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant subject area such as security, criminal justice or security related field • Ten (10) years’ experience in security or law enforcement with 3 years in a healthcare security management capacity required • Must obtain Illinois Department of Professional Regulations Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) within 60 days of employment • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and standards • Knowledge in the operation of security equipment • Knowledge of The Joint Commission Environment of Care – Security Management Standards • Workplace Violence Guidelines • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to include the ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts and build teams • Demonstrated creativity and flexibility • Ability to operate in high-pressure situations • Excellent organizational skills • Demonstrated innovative approach to problem resolution • Ability to work collaboratively across Rush University System for Health entities and disciplines • Demonstrated commitment to patient and family centered care • Broad knowledge of modern health care administration practices and • principles within a managed care environment and/or an academic medical • center. • Effective analytical ability to develop and analyze options and solve complex problems and issues • Knowledge of principles and techniques used in negotiation as applied to • service contracts and equipment purchasing • Effective organizational, planning and project management abilities • Experience in financial and programmatic presentations • Ability to function independently and deal with multiple, simultaneous projects • Ability to recognize personal strengths and weaknesses and develop goals for professional growth and achievement • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to quality and excellence • Ability to implement change in a positive, sensitive and forward- thinking • Manner • Ability to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction including employees, • patients, visitors, faculty, referring physicians and external stakeholders **Preferred Job Qualifications:** • Master’s degree in security, criminal justice, business or security related field • Has held administrative position in a large academic or complex health program that included security **Disclaimer:** The above is intended to describe the general content of and requirements for the performance of this job. It is not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities or requirements. **Responsibilities:** • Rotate and support local leadership at all Rush entities • Collaborate with senior leadership to direct the development of an effective strategy to anticipate, assess and mitigate operational security-related threats/risks, manage crises and incidents, and safeguard the Rush System • Conduct annual risk assessments and security audits for each of the Rush locations to identify vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations • Create new policies and procedures for each site as necessary due to organizational needs as well as governmental and or regulatory changes • Focus on planning for accidents, natural disasters, and other emergency situations that can impact the Rush System • Develop and manage the goals and objectives for the security department for each of the Rush locations to ensure they are consistent with overall plans for the System and to ensure they promote cohesiveness and integration • Oversees system-level strategic planning regarding the standardization of training and technology, active shooter drills, secure egress access, campus monitoring, and communication • Prepares and manages system operating budget for the security department. Work with Finance to anticipate and resolve resource-related issues • Utilizes knowledge of policies, system processes, and outside regulatory agency requirements to provide expertise in developing innovative tools, projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals • Oversees all performance improvement projects and activities. Implements and tracks outcomes of these initiatives. • Establishes, implements, and maintains mechanisms to promote communication within the departments such as weekly and/or monthly system department meetings • Chairs or participates in hospital-wide committees. Attends and serves on professional and civic organizations as a hospital representative, as appropriate • Responsible for developing and maintaining The Joint Commission accreditation requirements for a Security Management Plan. • Acts as Hospital Incident Command system (HICS) Security Branch Director, Liaison Officer or Incident Commander for RUSH during emergency incidents • Responsible for all regulatory reporting requirements for a higher education security program, to include compliance with the United States Government Department of Education Clery Act reporting **Rush is an equal opportunity employer.
