Job Description Summary

Providing a safe, secure environment for our workforce and visitors is crucial at Nationwide. Our Security team monitors security needs and assists associates with security and safety-related issues. If you are safety focused, a very effective communicator, detail oriented and ready to serve and protect our executives, associates and the public, we want to know more about you!

As Specialist, Executive Protection you’ll act as primary protection agent to our CEO, our top executives, and other dignitaries. You’ll conduct advance work to create comprehensive security plans for all trips, events and off-site meetings. You’ll operate with flexibility and independence while using sound judgement, high attentiveness and providing extraordinary care.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:   

Provides high quality, top-rated executive protection for our CEO, top executives, and other high-profile dignitaries. 

Conducts risk assessments, in partnership with threat management team members and others, for major events, travel, or other activities to identify and mitigate threats and vulnerabilities. 

Proactively develops and carries out comprehensive protection plans with extraordinary care. 

Transports and/or coordinates transportation of CEO and others as needed, ensuring the safest route to destinations. 

Coordinates all security plans, schedules, and other details necessary to provide the utmost protection, prevention, and care. 

Creates and maintains plans to respond to potential emergencies and crises for all locations to which executives may travel. 

Gathers, analyzes, and shares all pertinent intelligence from reliable local and national sources.  Incorporates this information into protection plans as necessary. 

Develops and ensures comprehensive and effective protection plans are in place for lodging, meeting, and other accommodations, as necessary. 

Conducts social media and residential physical security, risk, and threat assessments for executives and recommends enhancements or changes. 

Coordinates and partners with internal and external agencies, law enforcement and firms to provide close-in personal protection to executives and others. 

May travel domestically as part of protection plans, provide emergency first aid medical support, and confront and de-escalate potential threat subjects and situations. 

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.   

 

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager, Executive Protection Services. This is an individual contributor role. 

 

Typical Skills and Experiences:   

 

Education: Undergraduate studies in business administration, psychology, criminal justice, security management, or other related areas preferred. 

 

License/Certification/Designation: Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and Private Investigator Security Guard Services (PISGS) Armed Officer certifications preferred. 

 

Experience: Typically, five or more years demonstrated experience in law enforcement, corporate security, or executive protection security for high-profile individuals.  Experience with active shooter response, counterterrorism, crisis management, and close protection preferred. 

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Must be familiar with all laws governing private security as well as demonstrated knowledge of executive or high-profile security programs for life/safety and property protection. Must be familiar with corporate security policies and procedures. Able to conduct risk assessments, threat management, and develop and carry out security countermeasures and protection plans. Able to de-escalate threats or situations in a calm, effective manner.  Able to direct security associates in a variety of emergency situations as well as remain calm during high stress situations. Must possess basic law enforcement skills, including communication, first responder techniques, crime scene investigation, care and operation of firearms, and progressive use of force.  Excellent communications skills with internal teams, executives, and external audiences. 

 

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.  

 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner.

Job Conditions:   

 

Overtime Eligibility: Exempt (not eligible) 

 

Working Conditions: Must be able to work flexible office hours to include weekends, holidays, special event coverage or emergency situations as needed. Must be able to successfully pass physical fitness requirements, a psychological exam, and a pre-employment and annual criminal background checks.  Requires 30 – 50% travel or more.
