Executive Underwriter 

This role operates on a hybrid work schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote) and must sit in any of the listed office locations.

We are seeking an experienced and meticulous Executive Underwriter to join our esteemed underwriting team. As an Executive Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the underwriting process from start to finish. You will evaluate risks, analyze data, make informed decisions, and ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have extensive underwriting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to lead and mentor a team of underwriters.

Responsibilities: • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of underwriters, ensuring accurate risk assessment and adherence to underwriting guidelines • Evaluate complex insurance applications and other relevant documents to determine acceptability and pricing • Collaborate with brokers, agents, and other internal stakeholders to negotiate terms and conditions of coverage • Analyze data, market trends, and risk factors to develop and implement effective underwriting strategies • Review and approve higher-risk or more complex submissions, exercising independent judgment and decision-making • Stay updated on industry developments, regulatory changes, and emerging risks that may impact the underwriting process • Mentor and train junior underwriters, providing guidance and technical expertise • Monitor and manage underwriting portfolios, identifying potential issues and implementing corrective actions • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, brokers, and reinsurers • Contribute to the development of underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines

 

Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience) •Minimum 5 + years of Property Experience. This includes proficient understanding to CAT modelling, Marketing and Property Policy Language. History of targeting new business opportunities and in-depth connections to the property broker marketplace.  In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles, practices, and insurance products • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make sound decisions • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal • Strong leadership abilities, with experience in managing a team of underwriters • Proficient in using underwriting software systems and Microsoft Office Suite • Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices • Attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment • Professional certifications, such as CPCU or CIC, are preferred but not required.
