Executive VP of Human Resources
 

Executive Vice President of Human Resources is a member of The senior management team and provides strategic leadership to the organization in all areas of human resource management, including recruitment, employee relations/employment law, training and development, benefit administration, health and safety, DEIJA, and HRIS.

Responsibilities:

 Human Resource Management

Develop and be responsible for the implementation of an agency-wide HR program that addresses BAMSI’s current and anticipated needs related to paid and volunteer personnel.Oversee the recruitment function, ensuring the successful selection of paid staff, interns, and volunteers.  Work in conjunction with other senior staff to anticipate and plan for organizational growth and expansion.        Track and analyze employment-related data, preparing reports to internal and external stakeholders.Manage a comprehensive employee relations effort that promotes a skilled, trained and motivated workforce through a comprehensive program of training and development, morale-building activities, and meaningful policies and procedures.Establish, communicate, administer and interpret human resource policies.  Work collaboratively with managers and supervisors on the effective and legal resolution of staff performance and disciplinary matters.Serve as resource to staff on diverse employee relations matters.

Benefits

Oversee BAMSI’s benefits programs (health, dental, retirement, paid time off, etc.), including administration and enrollment, employee communications, and negotiations with vendors.        Analyze current benefit effectiveness, and research/recommend changes and additions.  In collaboration with BAMSI’s Safety Committee, manage health and safety issues, including workers’ compensation.

Employment Law

Ensure BAMSI’s compliance with all applicable state and federal employment laws, regulations, and contracts.  Work with legal counsel and senior staff to update and revise policies and procedures accordingly.  Play an active role negotiating and implementing labor contracts with BAMSI’s unionized staff.  Represent BAMSI at unemployment or other quasi-judicial hearings.

Leadership

Serve as a member of BAMSI’s senior management staff, participating actively in agency-wide planning and activities.  Represent the Human Resources Department at Global Reconciliation, Roundtable and other cross-departmental meetings.  Represent the Human Resources Department at Monthly Board of Director’s meetings.Provide leadership and consulting support to senior managers on matters of policy development, strategic implementation of new programs and initiatives, and sensitive employee relations matters.Represent the Human Resources Department at diverse staff forums, explaining new policies and procedures and promoting HR’s role and to BAMSI’s staff.Supervise and provide guidance to the three Human Resource Directors.Perform other duties as directed or as needed.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.  Professional certification at the SPHR level desired.Successful track record in human resource management, including a minimum of 10 years’ experience, including five years in a senior management/supervisory role, preferably in a nonprofit setting.Must demonstrate the ability to engage in both strategic thinking and hands-on tactical work.Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, delivering product and project results on time.Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to speak effectively to groups of employees at all levels of the agency and to write reports, analyses and employee communications.Labor relations experience (working in a unionized environment, contract negotiations experience, etc.) necessary.Familiarity with diverse HRIS systems.Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
