JOB SUMMARY
+ Conducts the education and motivation to assess, improve, and maintain patients’ fitness and health by designing exercise programs and ongoing prescriptions. Responsible for the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and management of Health Promotion, Community Health Education, and the health of our employees, employee family members, public members, volunteers, and Be Well at Work members. Presents health/fitness information to new employees at New Employee Orientation (NEO). Serves as a resource for BWAW wellness team to call upon for on-site and/or virtual BWAW company presentations and other exercise-related requests as needed. Actively promotes the Wellness Center to the BWAW population. Provides services emphasizing the adoption of exercise as a healthy lifestyle choice for employees and the public. Conducts training for staff, schedules and teaches group fitness classes with modifications to all audiences, reports outcomes data, and gives wellness center orientations with the focus on proper safety techniques to all members. Serves as the certified exercise physiologist of a medically managed wellness/weight loss program with a multi-disciplinary approach. Provides education towards behavior modification that is conducive to success. Meets with patients to understand their needs and wishes, and to reviews their medical histories. Conducts exercise assessments to evaluate baseline fitness levels and starting points. Suggests exercise programs, discussing the benefits and any potential risks with patients. Designs individualized exercise plans, based on patients’ needs and goals. Administers exercise prescriptions designed to improve mobility, flexibility, strength, body composition, and cardiovascular endurance; accelerate recovery from injury; and help patients live with disabilities. Works directly with special populations and controlled diseases such as cardiovascular disease, pregnancy, cancer, osteoporosis, orthopedics, etc. Obtains continuing education in the field.
This position requires providing services to adolescents, adults and geriatric clients in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
+ Education/Training/Experience:
+ REQUIRED:
+ Possesses a BS degree from an accredited college or university in counseling-fitness, or wellness-related field.
+ Experience in the health promotion/wellness field.
+ Must possess adequate knowledge of health appraisal techniques, risk factor identification and sub-maximal exercise testing.
+ Demonstrate an understanding of the techniques for motivation, teaching, and counseling individuals to promote lifestyle changes.
+ License/Certifications/Special Requirements:
+ Must be willing to obtain ACSM certification of Certified Exercise Physiologist.
