Exercise Physiologist Stress Lab - Cardiology - Mainland Hospital - Galloway

POSITION SUMMARY

The Exercise Physiologist analyzes a patient’s medical history to assess risk during exercise and determine the ideal exercise and fitness regimen for the patient. The Exercise Physiologist also performs cardiac stress tests including pharmacological cardiac stress testing with medical equipment and analyzes the resulting patient data, which includes blood pressure, oxygen usage, heart rhythm, and other key patient health indicators.

 The Exercise Physiologist in the Stress Lab is responsible for performing diagnostic cardiovascular stress testing examinations. Cardiac stress testing is a noninvasive study that provides information about the patient’s cardiac function. Stress tests are a routine part of an exercise physiologist’s cardiac fitness evaluation. The Exercise Physiologist administers the entire test (from attaching leads to assisting during an adverse event), records and analyzes the data generated, and explains the test procedure and details to the patient.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science required and Exercise Physiologist Certified (EPC) preferred.  Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: BLSHCP certification required.  ACLS required

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1-2 years experience administering maximal and sub-maximal graded exercise tests; supervisory experience preferred.

Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury.  This position requires frequent walking and standing and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
