This position works in partnership with program teams in the Resource Management and Assistance Division and with designers in the Communications and Outreach Section to plan and construct displays for the public to view and interact with at the Eco Experience, We Are Water MN and other education and outreach events. The employee will make plans for the construction of exhibits and do project management, construction/fabrication, installation/assembly, transportation, and maintenance. This position enhances the public’s awareness and understanding of the educational goals for agency programs and priorities; influences visitor attitudes and behaviors to foster public interest in protecting, conserving, and improving the environments we live in; and provides visitors with user-friendly and consistent exhibits about the agency’s work on healthy air, sustainable lands, clean water and a better climate. **Minimum Qualifications** Carpentry skills and experience. Experience with shop tools including hand tools, power tools, welders and table saw. Read plan drawings and accurately build components using woodworking skills. Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. carpentry, mechanics, welding, and electrical) sufficient to build, assemble, or install exhibits, stage sets, or theatre scenery. Knowledge of, or capable of being trained in, the care, safety and operation of power tools and equipment. Ability to pass certification for the operation of mobile elevated work platforms and forklift. Must be able to communicate effectively and receive and carry out assignments with understanding and commitment to a diverse clientele. Respectfully engage and collaborate with clients, coworkers, and customers, when handling difficult or complex problems. Basic computer skills with proficiency in Word and exposure to Excel and PowerPoint. Good communication and human relations skills to interact effectively with team members. Possess a valid Driver's license (see additional requirements). The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. **Preferred Qualifications** Ability to: Anticipate and order necessary materials like wood, metal, paint, hardware, and other construction supplies. Use power tools and hand tools to precisely cut and assemble set pieces according to design specifications. Apply paint, textures, and finishes to sets as per design requirements. Safely lift, hang, and secure lighting and exhibit pieces using rigging systems. Perform repairs on existing exhibits and maintain tools and equipment. Safely load and secure exhibits for transportation in trucks and vans. Maintain an organized and safe work environment. Adapt to unexpected challenges during construction of exhibits. **Physical Requirements** Must be able to perform extensive standing, driving, walking, and climbing; to lift up to 50lbs. regularly; to manipulate up to 100lbs. with assistance, to transport and stock assigned supplies and materials; to pick-up from vendors and deliver stock and materials to customers upon request, to wear personal protective equipment. Must be able to bend, stoop, and climb to reach materials (must be able to climb a step ladder at approximately three feet in height and to work from a lift up to twenty feet in height). **Additional Requirements** A driver’s license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver’s license AND a satisfactory DLR check. Requires a Class D driver´s License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver’s license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
