Our Environmental Services group is seeking an Experienced Biologist / Ecologist to join the ENERCON Team to work out of our Palm Beach Gardens, Florida Office. In this role, you’ll join our Florida team of biologists to lead wetland delineations, T&E habitat characterization, land-use mapping, vegetation cover classification, GPS data collection, permitting, and report preparation, collaborating with agencies like USACE, USFWS, and various state and county agencies.
ResponsibilitiesImagine a day where you’re in the field conducting wetland delineations, species surveys, and land-use mapping across Florida and the southeast U.S. You’ll work closely with agencies like USACE and USFWS, securing permits, creating GIS maps, and ensuring compliance with key environmental regulations. Each day offers the chance to protect vital ecosystems while supporting the growth of sustainable infrastructure.
Environmental Assessments & Field Surveys: Conduct environmental field surveys, land use verification, wetland delineations, protected species surveys, and vegetation identification throughout the southeast U.S., with a focus on Florida wetlands. Perform wetland delineations and permitting, threatened/endangered species surveys, land-use mapping, and vegetation cover classification. Certification as a Gopher Tortoise Agent preferredPermitting & Regulatory Compliance: Complete Federal and State environmental permitting, including acquiring right-of-way permits, regulatory strategy development, site feasibility assessments, and NPDES compliance for utility-related projects. Obtain environmental permits and prepare reports for regulatory agencies such as USACE, United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), FDEP, and other state and county agencies. Ensure successful performance and accuracy of documents prepared for environmental services in accordance with National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) guidelines, as applicable. Develop and maintain environmental policy and procedure manuals for compliance throughout project lifecyclesData Collection & Reporting: Conduct GPS data collection and create GIS maps. Oversee the preparation of biological assessments for Section 7 ESA consultation requirementsProject Inspections & Environmental Oversight: Perform on-site environmental inspections for utility construction projects. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act (Section 404), and Florida State water quality regulations Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Sciences required (preferably Biology or Ecology) and minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible environmental consulting experience OR Appropriate Industry recognized licenses or certifications indicating achievement in Biology or Ecology AND 8 years of progressively responsible environmental consulting experienceErosion and sediment control management experience Ability to be a part of a diverse project team that includes client representatives, regulators, scientists, and contractorsExperience with identification/delineation of wetlands and other flora and fauna in the southeast United StatesExisting relationships with relevant agencies (FERC, USACE, USFWS, FDEP)Experience with FDEP and USACE Section 404/10 PermittingKnowledge of Florida fauna and floraProficient with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPointExperience with ArcGIS applications including ArcMap and Trimble GPS data collectorsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to complete long field days, that may exceed 8 hours in length, in hot and humid or cold conditions and in a variety of habitats including wetlands and dense forestsAbility to lift and carry up to 50lbs of equipmentAbility to travel/work in the field 30% of the time, primarily within Florida, but also throughout the southeast U.S.Typical travel duration will be 2-3 days, but can vary depending on project and client needs, ranging from a few days to a few weeks within FloridaOffice work is typically 70% of the time for this positionProviding field support following storm events, with little notice, is requiredMust possess a valid Driver’s License and have a consistent clear Motor Vehicle report/driving history Additional InformationAbout ENERCON:
