As a Physical Designer, you will be working in a project team environment with engineers and other designers involved in high and extra high voltage substation design. Responsibilities will include the preparation of the following substation and/or telecommunication drawings:
Substation General ArrangementSubstation Electrical Equipment PlansSubstation Section Views (Elevations)Substation Detailed Bill of MaterialSubstation Lightning Stroke Shielding PlanSubstation Grounding PlanSubstation Conduit, Electrical Connection and Grounding DetailsSubstation Below Grade Conduit/Raceway PlanControl Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans and SectionOther responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Develop network architecture designs based on TDM, SONET, IP / MPLS and other relevant standardsPrepare network and channel diagrams and perform timing studiesDesign fail safe systems with path & equipment redundancies & diversity to serve mission-critical operations with extreme reliabilityInterpreting and incorporating vendor information into design deliverables.Performing walkdowns at client facilities.Applying Client's standards related to the work.Mentoring other designers and drafters.Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of 5 years of telecommunication and/or substation physical design experience. Qualifications also include the following:
An Associates Degree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.Advanced knowledge of computer drafting tools (i.e. AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.Telecommunications project or systems design experience in radio, fiber optics and/or network engineering.Ability to multi-task from project to project.Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.Must be bilingual in Spanish and English (speak, read, and write).Valued Knowledge/Skills:
An Associates Degree in Computer Aided Design.Familiarity with Bentley Substation Design.Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.Sargent & Lundy is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
