Experimental CNC Machinist (Bargaining Unit) Job ID 6202 Location SLAC - Menlo Park, CA Full-Time Regular **SLAC Job Postings** **Position Overview:** We¿re seeking an Experimental CNC Machinist who is primarily focused on the rapid and efficient development of prototypes of advanced RF sources, accelerator-structures, and ultra-high vacuum and high-power RF components. Machining of components for research systems and equipment may also include other tasks related to the fabrication, construction, repair, installation, modification, operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment used in laboratories. **Given the nature of this position, SLAC will require onsite work.** **Specific job Duties include (but not limited to):** + Machine highly complex structures, which may require multi-axis surfacing. + Set-up, program, monitor and maintain the full spectrum of CNC machines in work area including horizontal and vertical mills, lathes, and live tooling multi-spindle lathes. + Design fixtures and tooling for proper support and alignment. + Maintain surface finishes of 8 ¿-inch or better. + Maintain flatness tolerances within 3 microns. + Maintain tolerances of 0.0001¿. + Machine a wide range of materials including (but not limited to) annealed copper, cupronickel, molybdenum without chipping or deforming. + Contribute to the prototype design effort by working with engineers and designers to improve drawings to avoid potentially unnecessary cost drivers. + Import solid models from CAD to CAM. + Plan and run jobs on multiple machines for optimal efficiency. + Adhere to the appropriate Work Planning and Control processes when maintaining machines.
