Experimental Mechanic - 2nd Shift - Full-time with Benefits

Starting Pay: $29.41/HR

As a Research and Experimental Mechanic at Caterpillar Inc., you will continuously improve process efficiency by performing the assembling, fitting, and adjusting and/or dismantling required in the construction or disassembly of experimental engines. Individuals will work on experimental, pre-production, postproduction and legacy engines that range in size from 4.0 L to 340 L.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:  

Engineering theory and designWork from Pro-E models, VisView models, blueprints and verbal instructionsAssist install builds in various stages on both gaseous fuel and diesel type enginesFitting for cooling, air, hydraulic connections, and wiring harnesses for adaptation of the test device to the test machineInstalling necessary test leads, thermocouples, cylinder pressure pick-up gauges, and instrumented test components as required performing the testPerform adjustments on valve train, gear train, fuel system, cooling system, and oil systemAssembly of entire unit of a new design or the buildup of subassembliesAid in the fabrication of intake and exhaust piping, instrumented fuel and cooling lines, and modified wiring harnessesIncorporating improvements and developments in present production modelsEvaluate and determine reusability of engine hardware during engine buildsUses various precision gauging tools to check accuracy of assembly and fitting operations. Plans method and sequence of assemblyInstall and remove engines from a testing cellUses all common mechanic's hand tools, portable power tools, power presses, simple machines tools, and powered crane to assemble parts into complete unit, making alterations and hand fitting parts when necessaryMakes suggestions concerning methods of overcoming difficulties encountered in assembly/disassembly and reasons for parts failureInitiate possible changes in design to correct failure, and any other pertinent criticisms or data gained while performing assembly/disassembly or dismantling or construction 

Required Qualifications: 

Minimum 3-5 years full time working experience in diesel engine service and repair industry OR 2 year technical degree within the disciples of diesel power technology, Industrial; Engine Power Technology, or Caterpillar Dealer Service Technology

Additional Information:

As an Experimental Mechanic at the Caterpillar Tech Center, all tools required to perform tasks in your job role will be provided by Caterpillar.This position is located in Mossville, IL.Relocation is not available for this position.Visa Sponsorship is not available for this position.This is a 2nd shift position (Hours: 1:00PM – 11:00 PM Tuesday through Friday)Will train on 1st shift for 4-6 months.
