Expert Engineer - Electrical Propulsion System

What you will do

As a System Engineer for Electric Propulsion System (EPS) in E-mobility NA located in Greensboro, NC you will be a key person in ensuring that the platform e-drive systems developed by EPS are adapted to the US market by communicating requirements of the US products. You will also help the Global EPS team understand customer needs that are specific for the US, for example body-builder requirements.

You will be the EPS representative in the US. In this role you are expected to work cross functionally with engineering and verification teams working with development of BEV vehicles for the US market. When needed you will be required to interact with purchasing and operations. In this role you will specifically be required to:

Convey local US Req/STDs  Maintain and communicate system topologies and architectures. Communicate system requirements to the vehicle project and be active in the system integration and packaging work of Traction Voltage System components. Establish system concepts/strategies for new systems and components (i.e. HVIL or system power up/down)  Work with Vehicle Engineering to coordinate DBC’s, signals, and I/O allocation required for E-drive systems. Support development of End User Functions. Provide requirements and input for software development and support software releases from software team to vehicle. Be EPS representative during vehicle builds (B, C and P-builds) Keep up to date and communicate on-going possible decisions that could influence EPS activities. Support the EPS in finding the right contact person(s) within the US organization when needed. Support SFMEA/DFMEA and other quality activities. Support system and vehicle test rig development activities in local office.

 

In short, you will be a very important go-to person both in the US organization but also for EPS globally.  The work is performed in an international environment together with colleagues around the globe. 
 

 

Your future team

E-mobility is responsible for the development of electrified powertrain solutions for today and tomorrow.  The E-mob teams consists of many departments that develop systems and components for the electrified powertrain such as batteries, motors, chargers, high voltage system, and ePTO’s. 

 

E-mobility North America is the local development/support office that delivers products for the North America market.  Located in Greensboro, the Emob NA team uses deep customer knowledge to break down NA region customer features into technical requirements to feed back into the design. Emob NA supports the global team in the development of the e-mobility system and is responsible for the performance verification and delivery of the vehicle.  As the local front office of E-moblity, Emob NA also assists in cross functional support to educate and prepare other functions in the Volvo group for the electrification future.

Requirements: 

Bachelor's Degree in Computer science, Electrical & Electronics, Mechatronics engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics. At least 10 years of experience in product development, preferably within electromobility.  Documented experience in a minimum of two of the following: Technical knowledge in the electromobility products, systems, and components Verification of electromobility systems and/or components  Electronic platform and/or system design Component development and industrialization processes in Volvo GTT Project management

 

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree Commercial driver’s license  Experience in heavy-duty vehicle applications and vehicle integration. What’s in it for you?
