ABOUT Hermosa
Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Exploration Geologist provides input and coordination of the safe acquisition and synthesis of mineral exploration activities within the Hermosa Project Area of Influence (AOI) via geological mapping and sampling, core logging, and geologic interpretation. This role is a Permanent position based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
• Accountable for safe and effective operation of Exploration activity
• Promotes and instils among all personnel the need to act safely and responsibly
• Completes training and assessed to be competent before operating any machinery or undertaking a task
• Timely reporting of all Hazards, Near Misses and Incidents
• Completes geological mapping, sampling, core logging, and geological interpretation to support drill target development and resource growth
• Carries out technical and operational tasks in collaboration with Exploration team
• Provides input into the Exploration Team direction and participates in the safe acquisition, consistency, quality control and interpretation of geological data for exploration target definition and development
• Develops, maintains, and updates all relevant work practice documentation (SWI’s, Procedures, Manuals) as required
• Ensure Time in Field commitments are fulfilled
• Provides input into ongoing deposit knowledge, mineralogy, geo-metallurgy
• Supports all activities in a collaborative manner and ensures regular cadence of engagement routines, includes all direct reports, peers, wider Hermosa Geology and project teams and other key South32 stakeholders (Community Relations, Greenfields Exploration for example)
• Participates in professional development programs and competency-based training as required
• Participates in regular 1 on 1 review meetings with Senior Exploration Geologist
• Attend all relevant meetings
• Contributes to the implementation of technology initiatives to optimize operational and portfolio potential
• Liaise with the Environmental Team to coordinate regulatory compliance for all field-based activities
• Provides inputs into Exploration Team projects and targets as they are undertaken
• Assists with timely reporting of Hermosa Exploration activities
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
• B.Sc. or higher in Geology (or an earth sciences equivalent)
• Zero (0) to four (4) years of Geology-related work experience including exposure to exploration field work
• Exposure to mining environment would be highly regarded
• Exposure to CRD style zinc-lead-silver mineralization or similar deposit types would be highly regarded
• Report writing and analysis level skills in MS Office suite, especially MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Visible field safety leadership and an ability to drive and extract safety and performance excellence
• Strong and effective communication and engagement skills
• Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
• Ability and desire to work outside in various terrains and weather conditions
• Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
• Strong English language written and oral communication skills
• Ability to safely perform required tasks and provide/receive coaching when needed
• Valid driver’s license and ability to be covered under company insurance
