Schlumberger
The Exploration Geophysicist is a multi-disciplinary integrator working in the areas of Geophysics with knowledge of Geology, Geochemistry, Risk Analysis and Exploration Economics and belongs to Schlumberger Technical Community. The Exploration Geophysicist is able to work in a wide variety of projects including single well interpretation, exploratory play evaluation, integrated reservoir studies and field development planning. This person is involved in integrated reservoir projects, field development planning, and production development. Geophysical skills are the most necessary aspect of this position, additionally knowledge of static model construction, geology, petrophysics, basin analysis and Schlumberger logging tools and various software is important. The Exploration Geophysicist is able to analyze market trends and developments of the exploration functions to provide input to Schlumberger strategy across Product Lines
Conduct 3D/2D seismic interpretation for both structural and stratigraphic play evaluations to identify and unlock hydrocarbon potential within concessions.
Perform detailed fault interpretation, structural and stratigraphic mapping, and velocity modeling for time-depth conversion.
Analyze seismic attributes to identify subsurface features, enhance reservoir characterization, and evaluate hydrocarbon prospects.
Execute quantitative seismic interpretation techniques such as seismic inversion.
Perform integrated reservoir characterization studies combining seismic and geological data to comprehensively evaluate reservoirs.
Conduct exploration potential studies and prospect evaluations, leveraging international analogies to identify promising opportunities.
Combine geological insights with geophysical interpretations to create robust subsurface models and enhance exploration success rates.
Utilize advanced seismic interpretation tools like Petrel for mapping, analysis, and project delivery.
Works on short and long term studies for Clients, applying geophysical interpretation for prospect development or as an input to geological models for fluid flow simulation.
Typically the position implies performing well-seismic tie and wavelet extraction, limited well log editing, limited seismic data conditioning, pre-and post stack amplitude inversion, seismic-attribute analysis, and prediction reservoir properties e.g. lithology, porosity, and fluid.
May involve applying forward modeling and amplitude versus offset (AVO) analysis, low frequency model development, and recommendations for seismic acquisition and processing.
As a secondary skill, interpretation of horizons, faults, and geologic bodies for velocity control and/or static model development may be required.
The Exploration Geophysicist works on projects for clients with the objective of conducting wide range of activities from play identification to drilling and post-well evaluation, managing appropriate resources and delivering the products on time with the required technical standards.
Should understand the interaction/overlap with other disciplines/multi-projects for clients with the objective to offer suitable risked opportunities in pre-established areas adding reserves and/or energy resources.
In a Project, leads development of client solutions coupled to the Exploration Cycle Time.
Makes independent studies, analysis, interpretations and conclusions.
Difficult, complex or unusual matters or decisions are usually referred to a more senior authority.
Has good knowledge in conventional (oil and gas) exploration, unconventional exploration (heavy oil, tight gas, coal bed methane, shale oil and clatrates) and ground water.
Should be well acquainted with the Petroleum Systems Analysis.
In geology, should have knowledge of stratigraphy, sedimentary petrology, structural geology, tectonics and mapping techniques.
In geophysics, must know different geophysical methods (potential fields, heat flow, and remote sensing) and have a good knowledge of seismic (acquisition, processing and interpretation).
Should understand and integrate geochemistry analysis (inorganic, organic, kinematics and basin modeling).
Would train and support clients in applying the software functionality to their interpretation needs as well as help NeXT on technical training.
In a Geomarket, leads development of client solutions.
Induces the customer to incorporate new technologies developed by Schlumberger for energy/ground water exploration.
Identifies technical solutions that are clearly relevant to client needs and impact Schlumberger business.
Helps evaluating new services and techniques under field test.
Establishes a good network with key clients as well as local professional society and academia.
