Job Summary

We are currently seeking an Explosives Test Technician. This position is located in Atlantic City, NJ.

 

Battelle’s Aviation Security Division provides test and evaluation services to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The qualified candidate for this position will support Independent Test and Evaluation (IT&E) events of security technologies at the Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL). Candidate will be responsible in supporting staff responsible for test planning, test execution, test article development and maintenance, daily reporting, data reduction and analysis, and test reporting for discrete test events of transportation security equipment for checkpoint, checked baggage, and cargo screening applications.

 

Testing involves the use of live explosives, simulated explosives, and mock passengers.Provide technical assistance in laboratory and scientific research, development, testing and related activities.Performs tasks under close supervision or from detailed procedures in process or completion.Support testing by constructing and setting up equipment, configuring instruments, preparing test specimens or materials, and conducting data collection.Support testing by documentation, design, development, and building of test articles, to include use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and/or 3-D printing to design novel parts.Support the execution and analysis of test results and is expected to interface daily with clients and stakeholders on-siteThe ability to regularly lift items weighing up to 50lbs, and to stage heavy equipment and test articles.Key Qualifications Successful completion of study from an accredited college or university resulting in an associate’s degree in applied science with 1 year of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field. Experience as a Transportation Security Officer (TSO)Strong oral and written communication skills.Significant experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).Experience with the development, documentation, and build of test articles to support testing efforts associated with security screening equipment.Work location is onsite at the TSL test facility five days a week.Candidates should be highly motivated and self-starters with a strong desire to learn.The candidate must be able to travel. Travel is expected to be less than 10%.Sole US Citizenship with eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and to obtain DHS Suitability.Preferred Qualifications Have at least an Associates of Applied Science or equivalent degree in a science field from an accredited college or university, or completion of study from an accredited technical school leading to a mechanic or technician rating; OR have at least 7 years of technical experience.Experience supporting the execution of test events to evaluate the performance of security screening technologies deployed by TSA for checkpoint and checked baggage screening.Experience with Explosive Detection Systems (EDS), Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT), Explosive Trace Detection (ETD), Advanced Technology (AT) X-ray systems, Checkpoint Computed Tomography (CPCT) X-ray systems, and other TSA-deployed screening technologies.Experience and associated training to support work with explosive materials.
