The Extension Agricultural Engineer will support Maine’s farm-based producer community by providing engineering education and technical manufacturing support. The individual in this position will direct tasks associated with outreach education, design, manufacture, and testing of equipment necessary to accomplish the mission of Cooperative Extension and Advanced Manufacturing Center. The AMC exists to provide technical manufacturing support to Maine industry, support the R&D functions of the University System and economic development efforts in the state, and educate university student interns in engineering best practices. Qualifications: Required: + M.S. in Engineering or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. + Approximately five years of demonstrated experience in engineering applications in agriculture, food production, and/or processing or a similar related field is required. + An understanding of practical small business considerations. + Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet constant deadlines required. + Ability to work effectively with individuals and teams. + Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills and project management skills. + Understanding the Land Grant mission of extending knowledge and research to the people of the State and thereby contributing to the sustainable and long-term social and economic development of communities is required. + Strong background in maintenance/repair of manufacturing equipment Preferred: + Experience in project management + Have experience in some of the following areas: CNC machining, machine design, engineering design, industrial hygiene, QC, metrology, 3D CAD and CAM, automation/ robotics, and welding/fabrication. + Experience advising and directing student research + Food safety experience + Equipment/tractor operation experience + Experience working with diverse audiences; knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion; and understanding of equal opportunity, affirmative action and civil rights policies.
