We are looking for a motivated and passionate individual to join our Vision Services Team!

This position will focus on optical sales and customer service. We do not require any optical experience, we will provide all necessary training!

What is available:

Work 40 hours each week

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm (occasional Thursdays 10:00am-7:00pm)

Have the opportunity to travel to other Gundersen optical locations!

Provide a quality optical experience to our patients and guests

What you will need:

High school diploma or equivalency

1 year of customer service experience

American Board of Opticianry (ABO) Certification within 18 months of hire

Job Description:

The Optician Float works with doctors, assistants, technicians, managers, and other department personnel to provide professional eyeglasses dispensing services. Designs vision correction devices to meet the visual, cosmetic, and lifestyle needs of the patients. Often works independent of doctor's supervision or instruction.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Determines the visual, cosmetic, and lifestyle needs of the patient and provides counseling as to the optimal lens and frame design to meet those needs.
2. Takes frame and lens measurements and enters into a computerized database. Emphasize benefits of new eyewear and explains cost to patient.
3. Uses counseling selling to explain benefits of eyewear products to patients and meets sales goals established by manager.
4. Utilizes Rx tracking system to process eyeglass and monitor orders with suppliers, and keeps patient apprised as to the status of the order.
5. Inspects all eyewear products upon receipt from the vendor to ensure quality standards and dispenses new eyewear to patients.
6. Adjusts, fits, repairs, and maintains patients eyeglasses as needed. Utilizes superior knowledge of optics and eyeglass fitting to resolve patient post-fit visual concerns.
7. Cleans and maintains frame inventory and lens samples and contributes to efforts to keep dispensary/vision center neat and clean.
8. Maintains expert product knowledge and patient service skills through attendance of department and clinic meetings, seminars, classes, and the use of resources such as journals, newsletters, and applicable texts.
9. Understand and utilize eyeglass-related insurance and coding for patient orders with vision specific insurance and process accordingly.

10. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.
11. Personally interacts, engages with and cares for patients.
12. Ensures patient safety.
13. Performs other job related responsibilities as needed to ensure successful operation of dispensary/eye clinic.

Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalency

DESIRED
Post High School education in a specialized field: Completion of optician program

Work Experience:
REQUIRED
1 year of experience in a customer service related position.

DESIRED
1 year experience as an optician, fitting patients after cataract surgery, eye disease and/or injury. Experience fitting specialty lenses such as slab-off prisms and double segment multifocals.

License and Certifications:
REQUIRED
American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certification required within 18 months of hire date

DESIRED
American Board of Opticianry Master (ABOM) certification
