Description of Work Unit
The Flint Animal Cancer Center in the Department of Clinical Sciences is one of the premier veterinary cancer treatment centers in the world and focuses on studying animal cancers with a focus on comparative medicine. This position will work with the principal investigators that are faculty members in multiple departments that work within the Flint Animal Cancer Center.
Position Summary
This position will provide high level administrative support for the research mission of the Flint Animal Cancer Center ( FACC ). This position will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of FACC internal granting process including management of request for proposals, support for the proposal review process, and record keeping and management of the process. This position will also provide administrative support and oversight for the FACC common equipment program which facilitates use of high-level research equipment within the FACC laboratory space that is used by research personnel within and outside of the FACC . This includes management and updating of existing business plans, coordination of service when needed, and working in partnership with FACC fiscal officer to ensure charges are captured.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; The department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. This position offers the potential for a hybrid work environment, with a combination of in-person and remote work, based on training requirements.
Required Job Qualifications
+ B.A./B.S. in a related field with a minimum of 1 year experience within a complex research enterprise or department with a nuanced understanding of the academic research environment.
OR
+ Associate degree in a related discipline plus 3 years of relevant, specialized training/experience in business or research administration.
AND
+ Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing research administrative tasks, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established protocols.
+ Demonstrates effective communication skills with diverse group of team members and researchers to gather and disseminate information, facilitating smooth and timely workflow and project updates.
+ Prioritizes tasks based on deadlines and importance, ensuring that all projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner with minimal supervision.
+ Competence in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro
+ Ability to multi-task, work in a team environment, and work independently.

+ Demonstrated experience and knowledge of basic research laboratory functions and equipment
+ Experience in creating and interpreting financial and accounting information

+ Provide high-level administrative support for the FACC research mission, including managing the internal granting process and supporting proposal reviews.
+ Maintain a database of funding requests, awarded projects, outcomes, and progress updates from principal investigators.
+ Collaborate with the fiscal officer to track spending, address financial concerns, and prepare progress reports.
+ Ensure compliance with funding agreements and monitor budget trends to prevent overspending or surpluses.
+ Work with Communications, Outreach, and Development teams to meet reporting deadlines and support research initiatives.

+ Provide administrative support and oversight for the FACC common equipment program, ensuring accessibility for internal and external laboratory personnel.
+ Manage and update business plans for the program, including coordination of equipment servicing as needed.
+ Partner with the FACC fiscal officer to ensure proper capture of equipment usage charges.
+ Assist with account management, including invoicing, account reconciliation, and frequent communication with PIs regarding financial status.
+ Develop, review, and update business plans to ensure financial sustainability and program effectiveness.
