Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

The Construction Project Engineer / Project Leader is responsible for reviewing design and scope of work documents, evaluating contractor bids, and overseeing construction progress and scheduling.  Additionally, he or she provides technical support to the construction team under the supervision of the Construction Project Manager.

 

The candidate will be able to work independently; but will work closely and report to a construction project manager. This position works on projects of limited complexity in a support role.

Key Responsibilities Assist in the development of cost estimates. Review plans and other technical documents. Answer questions regarding the scope and/or timing of the project. Monitor costs and project progress. Maintain control of all project documentation. Create, manage and track RFI’s from the field to the architect/engineer of record. Maintain/update project records/milestones. Assist the project manager in creating and distributing the project schedule. Assist project team with conflict resolution between contractor and subcontractors. Assist project manager with building, city, and/or governmental permits for the project. Understand appropriate building codes / regulations & compare with construction. Coordinate project change-order management. Conduct and document weekly project manager meetings / team decisions. Assist the project team with site safety documentation and coordination. Assist the project team with launching & closing of the project. Assist accounts payable / project controller with purchase orders & invoices. Assist project manager with assigned tasks. Experiences/Education - Required Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering or Construction Management Project management skills Strong leadership & communication skills Ability to communicate effectively and influence

 

Experience Requirements

 

 

3 to 5 years of experience in a project management 1 to 3 years of experience in construction and/or facility supervision

Able to work across different cultures Effective verbal and written communication Able to exercise leadership without authority Technical English & Spanish language skills (read, write and speak) Experiences/Education - Desired Ability to solve problems with advanced problem-solving tools Ability to clearly communicate ideas and gain support for changes needed to deliver project milestones
