Terracon is seeking a dynamic leader to manage our Facilities Services operation in Kansas City, covering opportunities in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, hold industry relationships throughout the region, A/E/C business acumen, technical background/experience in building diagnostics, remedial design, and/or construction. You must have the ability to collaborate with a variety of internal and external teams, and mentor and grow a diverse team of Facilities professionals.
Our Facilities Service Line provides consulting services in the building science, technology, real estate, and management space. Terracon’s Facilities professionals are trusted advisors to building owners, developers, contractors, financial institutions, and architects. Services are centered around eight practice areas including Building Enclosure, Facility Asset Management, Due-Diligence, Accessibility, Structural, Mechanical/Energy, Construction Risk, and Construction Management.
General Responsibilities:
Supervise and monitor all projects in progress in the department to ensure that work is executed on time and in accordance with the client’s requirements and within company policies, procedures, and standards. Supervise the preparation of proposals and cost estimates to clients to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of staff and pricing to achieve desired profitability. Supervise the daily operations of a department including staff training, development, and performance review, utilization of equipment and facilities, safety oversight, quality of services and work product, timely delivery of service and deliverables, and adherence to policies and procedures. Plan for an participate in business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:Responsible for preparation of proposals and cost estimates with varying degrees of complexity.Lead and direct the short-range business development activities of all department personnel to ensure that adequate fees are available to support the team and achieve projected growth.Develop and implement an annual business plan, growth strategy, and budget. Manage financial and resource operations to attain profitability and maximize team efficiency.Oversee and ensure consistent operations and practices of department by providing training, inspections, and monitoring/balancing workload.Oversee and manage the success of the key department metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.Plan for and execute the recruitment, selection, training, mentoring and development of all employees in the department.Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk. Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company. Be familiar with company risk policies.Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follow safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices. Promote pre-task planning for all projects.Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Ensure best practices are being followed and hold Managers accountable for quality control standards.Professional involvement with AIA, ASHRAE, BEC, ABAA, IIBEC, USGBC, etc. are a plus.Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related degree with a focus on building science and technology (Construction and/or Design). Master’s degree or PhD preferred.Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred.Minimum of 8 years’ related experience. Or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 12 years’ related experience.Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.Preferred Certification:Architecture or Engineering registration in regional states. Industry certifications such RRO/RRC, RWC/REWC, REWO, RBEC, CBECxP, LEED, CASP, etc.
