Facilities Engineer - Mechanical

Job Description:

Ghafari Associates, LLC (in association with Ford Motor Company) is seeking talented professionals to help lead the transformation of our building engineering as we realize a shift toward a more human focused and inspirational experience within our built environments. This position will be part of the Ghafari team working exclusively with Ford Motor Company and the Ford Land Architecture/Engineering/Planning division.

As the owner’s representative throughout the engineering design process, the Mechanical Engineer will engage with the broader team of internal and external design professionals + engineers, alongside strategic consultants to ensure the projects advance in alignment with corporate strategies and design standards, to deliver best in class engineering. Responsible for overseeing the initial project Scope Development + Design Strategy, the Mechanical Engineer will ensure that the project progresses in alignment with strategic engineering + design principles and guidelines throughout the delivery of the project. The Mechanical Engineer will be tasked with overseeing several concurrent projects at various phases of the design and construction process. The day-to-day responsibilities will vary but may include initial concept design creation, drawing review and markups, contract administration and site walks, and overall strategy development.

Primary Responsibilities:

Review and/or establish project scope, mechanical budget, necessary constraints and design approach with Project Manager and/or clientProper communication skills to be involved in design team / owner meetings and communicate directly with the owner and / or owner’s representativePrepare feasibility studies and project cost estimatesMaintain working knowledge of latest building and codes used in the industryFormulate and lead design of mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protectionPerform and/or review calculations, formulate design of mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protectionCreate engineering documents using computer aided design (CAD) technology utilizing Autodesk (Revit and AutoCAD) Edit or draft project specificationsConduct field measuring and checking at the construction siteReview drawings for omissions, errors, overall quality, content accuracy, compliance with standards and codesReview product submittals for design content (shop drawings), specify action to be taken to reach specification complianceMaintain organized project file containing project calculations, correspondence, appropriate reference materials, etc.Assist with checking, standards review, and maintenance of master specificationsDevelop and mentor less experienced staffPerform related duties as assigned

*Candidates are not required to have a professional engineer license, though it is preferred.

Employment Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural EngineeringProfessional Registration preferredLEED Accredited Professional preferred5+ years of related and progressively more responsible experience in Mechanical Engineering fieldPrevious experience with design of EV facilities a bonus     

Skills/Competencies:

Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD and Trane Trace 700Excellent written and verbal communicationStrong attention to detail
