NorthStar Memorial Group is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Worker for the Chapel of the Chimes Columbarium in Oakland, CA. Chapel of the Chimes - Oakland is truly a place like no other. Featuring stunning natural stonework, polished marble, delicate sculptures, and mosaic-tiled floors, it evokes renaissance beauty and serenity at every turn. With its many skylit rooms and interior gardens, it requires special care from special people.
The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic and previous experience in a general labor, facilities maintenance type position, as well as having a customer service-oriented outlook. The ability to problem solve during sensitive moments and to work cross-functionally with other teams is essential. This position is responsible for the overall appearance and care of this legacy columbarium, mausoleum, crematory, and funeral home location. You will also be involved in assisting our client families with their loved ones’ placement in the various niches and crypts, as well as when visitors need help placing flowers.
Responsibilities
General Facility Maintenance of the mausoleum, columbarium, and funeral home Maintains exterior/interior lighting. Inspects roof drains regularly. Assembles and moves furniture. Repairs and paints drywall. Repairs any asphalt paving issues. Clean, maintain, and repair fountains as needed. Assist with the care and maintenance of both the exterior and interior gardens, including irrigation systems. Maintain overall appearance and cleanliness of funeral homes and/or mausoleum facilities. Help with preparation and setup for opening and closing entombments and inurnments. Install bronze memorials, crypt/niche faces, etc. Perform maintenance and repairs of existing markers and other cemetery features, or equipment. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned the by manager.Qualifications
3+ years of prior experience in maintenance or similar roles. Experience using hand tools, power tools, grinders, sanders, sandblasting equipment. High school diploma, or equivalent education Must have reliable transportation. Valid driver's licenseCompetencies
Must be able to work independently and take direction. Knowledge and experience with small repairs of electrical and plumbing. Basic carpentry. Ability to troubleshoot and demonstrate problem-solving skills.Compensation
