About the Work Unit
The Executive Director's Office (EDO) is the backbone of the Colorado Department of Public Safety, providing effective administrative and management services to the Department's operating divisions.
The EDO includes the following:
+ The Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director – Oversees strategic direction and operations for the department.
+ Administrative Services Office - Provides division and department-level administrative and support functions encompassing accounting, purchasing and contracts, budget, logistics services (fleet, warehousing, material management and fabrication) and property services (property management, leasing, facilities maintenance, construction project management and insurance programs) to support the operations and programs of CDPS divisions.
+ Human Resources Office - Supports recruitment, hiring, evaluation, benefits management, personnel actions, payroll and all other human resources functions.
+ Compliance Office – Manages Departmental Policy, Risk Management, Workers Compensation Program, Workplace Investigations, Internal Auditing, Rulemaking, and ensures compliance with state and federal requirements and the State’s LESO 1033/1122 programs.
+ Colorado Integrated Criminal Justice Information Systems – develops cost-effective information sharing services to provide access for criminal justice agencies while maintaining information security. CICJIS is a collaborative program designed to facilitate information sharing at key decision points in the criminal justice process. There are five participating CICJIS agencies: the Department of Corrections, Judicial, the Colorado District Attorney’s Council, the Division of Youth Corrections, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
+ Office of School Safety – assists local schools and communities to create safe and positive school climates for pre-k through higher education schools in Colorado.
The Administrative Services Office provides internal administrative support to the Divisions within CDPS and include the following sections:

Work unit core business hours, either five 8 hour days or four 10 hour days. Monday - Friday.
About the Job
Oversees and directs the day-to-day operation of building maintenance for CDPS facilities located across Colorado including supervision of work performed by building maintenance personnel. Directs, prioritizes and schedules routine and emergency repair work. Coordinates for specialty work performed by outside vendors or contractors. Develops long range and immediate work production schedules, and sets performance standards. Provides guidance, support, and coaching to direct report employees, communicates and facilitates change management, requests personnel actions and handles personnel issues. Ensures employees have the leadership, direction, resources, qualifications, training, and experience necessary to perform their jobs in a safe and efficient manner.
This position also reviews the maintenance work required for the daily operation of CDPS facilities. This includes all work done by in-house trades personnel, contractors and vendors. This position provides the code compliance required in the construction, maintenance and repair of Colorado State Patrol Facilities. Provides for a safe, secure and quality physical environment while incorporating the agency’s mission and goals by providing facilities management services including, new construction, remodel, preventative maintenance, systems and equipment evaluation and state buildings code compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Facilities Maintenance Supervision
Provides overall supervision and safety of the day-to-day operation to the Department’s building mechanics, which includes the supervision of one licensed HVAC technician, one licensed Plumbing technician, one licensed Electrician and three structural trades positions. Leads by example and ensures all work is performed in a safe, professional, and timely manner. Responsible for the performance of facilities maintenance personnel to include writing performance evaluations, recommends progressive disciplinary action, and leave approvals. Manages, plans, schedules, assigns and inspects work performed by Property Services Section (PSS) structural trades staff including maintenance trades, structural trades, and licensed electrical/mechanical trades. The work includes preventative & unscheduled maintenance, construction, and renovation and repairs. Coordinates for backup for all job functions within the Facilities Maintenance Branch. Represents PSS and assists CDPS agencies on special projects and committees as a subject matter expert. Ensures compliance with operating procedures, safety standards and establishes facilities maintenance and repair guidelines.
Inspection / Auditing
Inspects building and facility equipment to determine skilled trades requirements for maintenance and repair needs and costs. Conducts technical reviews in the performance of facilities audits for State Buildings Controlled Maintenance Program. Reads, interprets and works from sketches, schematics, diagrams and blueprints for planning new or modifying existing building control and technical systems for construction and maintenance.
Project Work
Functions as project manager on small CSP or department renovation projects including planning, scheduling, procuring, inspecting and general administration of projects with in-house tradesmen and contractors.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Proven Experience, Knowledge, Skills
Four (4) years of relevant experience as a maintenance personnel in one of the labor, trades or crafts (HVAC, plumbing and electrical) appropriate to the work assigned to this position, two (2) of which must have been at the level of a unit supervisor or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications and Competencies
+ Ability to multi-task and maintain a tracked workflow in order to put aside projects that do not have a ready solution for items that require immediate attention.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills and intercultural competence.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, etc.) and Google Suite.
+ Maintenance or construction background strongly preferred.
+ Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management System strongly preferred.
+ Excellent customer service skills.
+ Previous maintenance supervisory experience.
+ Experience in supervising a team of multiple individuals.
Conditions of Employment
+ Requires successful completion of a background investigation that includes a polygraph exam, a fingerprint based criminal history search, reference checking.
