Facilities Management Specialist - Department of State The Position: We are looking for eager, driven candidates with experience in people management, communication, facilitation, problem-solving, and analysis to guide our teams in developing impactful solutions for our Federal clients at the Department of State. The Facilities Management Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing the physical facilities of a Department of State facility. This position requires a strong understanding of building operations, maintenance, and safety regulations. The successful candidate will ensure the facility is well-maintained, secure, and compliant with all relevant standards. Some of your key responsibilities will include: Facility Maintenance: + Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety systems. + Oversee the repair and maintenance of facility infrastructure, equipment, and furnishings. + Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective maintenance services. Facility Operations: + Manage daily facility operations, including cleaning, security, and waste disposal. + Monitor energy consumption and implement energy-saving measures to reduce costs and environmental impact. + Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards. Space Planning and Utilization: + Conduct space assessments to identify space needs and optimize utilization. + Develop space plans and layouts to accommodate changing organizational requirements. + Coordinate with departments to address space allocation and relocation needs. Emergency Preparedness: + Develop and implement emergency response plans, including fire safety, evacuation procedures, and security protocols. + Conduct regular drills and training sessions to ensure staff readiness. + Coordinate with local emergency services to maintain a strong working relationship. Budget Management: + Develop and manage the facility's budget, including capital improvement projects and operational expenses. + Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities. Some of the core qualifications for the role include: Required: + Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field. + Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, preferably in a government setting. + Strong understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards. + Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire safety systems. + Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). + Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. + Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work Preferred: + Experience working with the Department of State + Certification in Facilities Management (e.g., CFM). + Knowledge of sustainable building practices and LEED certification. We work in a hybrid setting with flexibility to work from home and work in our office conveniently located in the heart of downtown, just a few blocks away from the White House. And with many of our clients also based in D.C., we have the luxury of leaving for a meeting and being back in the office in time for post-work happy hours, team dinners, and game nights.
