Purpose of the Position:
Under the direction of the Head Teacher, the Assistant is responsible for age appropriate activities for children and the implementation of classroom curriculum.
Hourly rate: $20.60 per hour.
Responsibilities:
· Commit to using evidence-based practices (EBP); Motivational Interviewing (MI), Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), critical time intervention, and boundary setting, to help clients achieve their goals.
· Participate in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate curricula encompassing the social/emotional, physical and intellectual needs of Win children.
· Follow Win’s philosophy and goals of the Child Care program.
· Attend program staff meetings, child treatment reviews, case conferences, and supervisory sessions.
· Attend child care related trainings onsite and offsite.
· Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and days that NYC schools are closed.
· Must be able to escort children on field trips.
· Conduct age-appropriate developmental assessments once an assigned child settles in the shelter.
· Ensure a safe, healthy, culturally diverse, and attractive classroom environment.
· Communicate regularly with parents about the needs of their children, parental concerns, and engage parents in classroom activities.
· Perform related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
· Must be able to ascend /descend stairs in the building where client families reside.
· Must be able to lift children on a regular basis.
· Must be able to travel to other Win sites to provide child care coverage, attend meetings and training using public transportation.
Qualifications:
· Commitment to Win’s mission, vision, and values.
· Associates degree or Teacher’s Assistant Certification required.
· Knowledge and skill relating to planning activities for infants and pre-school children.
· Ability to interact in a supportive and nurturing manner with children and parents.
· Must have knowledge of and have sensitivity to the needs of homeless or at-risk families.
· Must submit to a medical screening to ensure good health as required by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Bureau of Child Care.
· Ability work cooperatively with others.
· Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
· Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus.
