Facilities Security Operations Technician

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Facilities Security Operations and IT Security Systems, the Facilities Security Operations Technician is responsible for servicing access control hardware and system issues and assisting with system installations related to access control and other university security applications.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as an administrator for the Lenel OnGuard system.

Troubleshoot access control and security systems issues and report them to the Facilities Security Operations Coordinator.

Perform preventative maintenance of access control hardware.

Perform battery changes and programming on wireless locks.

Assess door functionality and report any issues to the Facilities Security Operations Coordinator.

Assist with system installations and end user training.

Attend training courses, seminars, or workshops, as directed.

Comply with occupational safety and health standards; and all applicable rules, regulations and orders.  Understand and follow all safety rules and precautions.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

Note- Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year-for-year basis.

A minimum of two years of experience working with door hardware in a team environment.

Working knowledge of access control systems.

Basic knowledge of door hardware.

Basic troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work outside standard business hours to respond to campus emergencies when necessary.

PREFERRED:

A valid Locksmith license.

A NJ State Burglar Alarm certification.

Working knowledge of Lenel OnGuard systems.

*NOTE: This is a Civil Service position.  As required by the State of New Jersey, in order to be certified to the position and attain permanent status in title, candidates are required to successfully serve a 4-Month Working Test Period.

This position is designated as essential. The designation of essential requires employees at these 24/7 facilities to be present due to inclement weather situations. This position requires on campus work and is not a position that allows remote work.  

SALARY RANGE: P21: $62,164.36-$88,009.21 *NOTE: Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission’s formula. Salaries for external candidates are determined up to step four, $70,779.31.
