The Facilities Technician Assistant, under the general direction of the Facilities Manager, assists employees in the Technician and Senior Technician classifications in performing routine corrective and preventative maintenance work on the facilities operating equipment and systems and performs related duties as required. This laborer-level position may complete work under direct supervision, with some moderate problem solving required. Duties may include, but are not limited to, work on plumbing and electrical systems, doors, windows, roofs, fire equipment, HVAC components, as well as general labor duties.

Function/Duties of Position

Plumbing Activities — Assists in the installation of new plumbing including pipes, drains tubs, faucets, and other plumbing fixtures and equipment; cleans and opens drains, toilets and other water lines.

Lighting Maintenance — Replaces incandescent, florescent, and HID lamps; cleans light fixtures and luminaries; uses lifts, ladders and extension ladders as required.

Miscellaneous Activities — Assists various other journey- and apprentice-level trades people. Duties include sweeping, mopping, removing trash and snow, digging ditches, and replacing ceiling tiles.  Also uses tools and equipment of various trades, drives truck to run errands and deliver supplies, and maintains department vehicles.

Professional Development and Training —Requires continuous learning and developing of technical skills and knowledge to keep pace with changes in technology.  The attendance of training is expected as often as needed to keep knowledge current and to advance in the field.

Administrative Duties —Attend all required meetings and training classes and sucessfully complete any proficiency evaluation (verbal or written ) which may be required to demonstrate adequate comprehension.  These evaluations may also be administered to satisfy the requirements of OSHA, JCAHO, and other agencies upon which OHSU depends for accreditation.

Functional Duties —Accurately complete all paperwork as required (daily labor reports, job plans, work orders, etc.) and turn in all paperwork in time.  

Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of immediate work area and maintain security of personal hand tools, common shop tools, supplies, and vehicles.   Perform emergency duties or other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Facilities and Real Estate or designee.

Customer Service —Assumes role as primary customer service representative for all Facilities & Logistics operations and services on assigned Work Orders, responding to both internal and external customers in a timely, effective, and professional manner, developing positive working relationships.

Other Duties —Assisting in the repair of small plant or specialty equipment; fabricate tools, machinery and machine parts from metal, wood, plastic, and sheet metal using some machine tools and other forming tools and equipment.  This may include forging, tempering, straightening, bending and welding iron and steel, and soldering or brazing other non-ferrous metals.  

Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent1 years experience in Facilities Maintenance or trades-related experience or successful completion of a Facilities Maintenance technical training program.Basic/Intermediate PC skills to operate systems (Microsoft Office, data entry, email) Drivers license valid in the state of Oregon or Washington

Preferred Qualifications 3 years experience in Health Facilities Maintenance or trades-related experience OR completion of an approved Mechanical Maintenance Apprenticeship ProgramKnowledge of minor repairs on basic building systems. Some knowledge, skill and experience in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and componentsCFC Certification, (Universal) Brazing Certification, Limited Maintenance or Low-Voltage electrical license Additional Details

Pay Range: $22.30 - $30.14 per hour

Working conditions may include working outside in inclement weather, crawling in small cramped spaces, working from ladders, scaffolds and other above ground locations including high sloping roofs; working in extreme temperatures, around moving machinery, and in confined spaces containing high levels of of noise, dust, and odors could be expected. Some risk of exposure to dirt, biological, chemical and radiological materials, some danger of steam or hot water burns, electric shock, infection or minor injuries that could require the use of OSHA approved Personal Protective Equipment.

Normal duties require 40 hours per week. The position does require the ability of the incumbent to be able to respond to on-call assignments, overtime, and after hours or emergency call-backs as needed.
