Facilities Technician II

Nexus-Woodbourne is seeking a Facilities Technician II that is well-versed with building maintenance and construction.                   

Position Summary:

Provide a wide variety of repairs and general maintenance as required for the agency facilities including, but not limited to, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and vehicle maintenance.

Hourly Pay Rate $23.00 - $25.00!

Primary responsibilities:

Maintain physical plant and grounds.

Identify facilities and/or systems in need of repair, notify supervisor and conduct or coordinate preventative maintenance, schedules, and repairs to the academy properties. Identify safety health hazards, notify supervisor of potential problems to determine appropriate course of action and implement repairs to alleviate safety hazard. Respond to emergency calls on weekends, holidays and evenings as assigned and according to primary and secondary callback list. Remove debris and snow from exterior walks, grounds, and surrounding areas. Complete work orders and related reports and return said reports to supervisor.

Maintain facility vehicles per established maintenance standards.

Perform basic automotive maintenance on vehicles, such as replace wiper blades, tire repair/replacement and ensure that proper fluid levels are maintained on all vehicles. Ensure vehicles are checked for performance and maintenance needs. Maintain a log of when vehicles are due for preventative maintenance checks and ensure routine services schedules are followed; record all maintenance repairs completed on each vehicle.

Maintain furniture and equipment.

Operate a variety of motorized, power and hand-powered machines and equipment to include mower, screwdriver, router, welder, wrenches, edgers, drills and saws; demonstrates ability to use a variety of power tools leveraged in carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs. Perform preventative and routine maintenance on motorized power equipment; notify supervisor regarding needed repairs and/or other problems. Perform furniture repair and refinishing when appropriate. Assist in the planning and implementation of cabinet and shelving projects.

Assist in construction and/or repair projects for the physical plant.

Perform carpentry, repair drywall, clean plugged drains, replace washers and gaskets, replace faucets and valves, clean grease traps, clean and repair surfaces to be painted, paint interior walls, ceilings and cabinet work using brush or spray gun and assist with any other related projects as requested. Perform or assist in the installation of electrical switches and instruments on panels. Assist in repairing heating systems, sprinkler systems, heating and water chiller and AC systems. Identify problems in the emergency power and generator systems and in the fire alarm system(s) through routine inspection and report findings to supervisor. Provide input in the development of plans for construction and/or renovation of the academy’s building and grounds. Troubleshoot equipment to assess problems and recommend plans of action; works independently with little direct supervision and moving forward with assignments.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local ordinances that fire and safety rules are enforced.  If necessary, correct or report infractions.

Remains current on all required training and certifications including remaining current on all fire, safety and maintenance codes for the facility. Exhibits a spirit of cooperation among coworkers and complies with all home office and agency policies and procedures; displays ethical conduct and professionalism at all times while maintaining healthy boundaries.

Supervise and teach residents maintenance and renovation skills (at sites where vocational training programs are in place).

When possible, teach skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry and other pertinent areas. Check quality and completion of work. Instruct residents in safety procedures when dealing with projects or handling supplies. Communicate resident incidents or issues to appropriate clinical staff. Provide timely feedback to residents as to quality and quantity of work.

Required Education and Licensure:

High School diploma or GED plus 2 years vocational education required. 4 years related work experience in building maintenance, construction or an additional trade required, or an equivalent combination. Must possess proven skills in at least 3 of the following areas: plumbing, heating/air conditioning, woodworking, general electrical, vehicle maintenance, construction/carpentry, carpet and vinyl application. Must have the ability to meet Life Safety codes. Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Home Office driving requirements

Preferred Education and Experience:

5+ years’ experience serving a building maintenance or facilities technician capacity.
