Facility Coding Manager

Manages Facility coding department for both Inpatient and Outpatient services. Additionally, manages outsource coding companies and provides quality checks for outsource coders. Recommends and implements policy and staffing changes based on schedules, quality monitors and financial goals. This includes monitoring Discharged Not Final Billed (DNFB) worklists to ensure timely coding/billing. Performs DRG review and works with outsource company for DRG disputes. Work with outsource company on PACT reviews. Participates in on-going in-service education as well as annual inpatient and outpatient coding educational sessions.
The manager is expected to administer both hospital and departmental polices appropriately and consistently. Responsible for developing, interpreting, setting and enforcing policies and procedures for the department. Initiates and develops Quality Improvement Team who work independently to improve the work environment and develop the training programs to educate coding.
Responsible for continually developing team building skills and giving staff the initiative to take ownership of assigned duties. Creates an atmosphere where employee's responsibilities can spark curiosity and encourage self-motivated goals towards our Mission Statement. Concurrently works with CDI department to review provider documentation accuracy. Reports findings, irregularities or trends to their director and other relevant department heads. Activities will include the ability to change job responsibilities as needed to facilitate the requirements set down by governing agencies and the needs of the hospital at that time.
SECTION II
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree, Health Information Management Administration, or Associates Degree, Health Information Management Plus credential as RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technologists), or CCS. At least 5 years working experience in a Health Information Office as a coder or supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position is located indoors under normal working conditions. Should be able to push/pull 25 lb., lift/move 15 lb. from floor to table, be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a key board, writing and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to sit at a computer terminal or work station for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat, stand and walk for a reasonable length of time and distance. Sensory requirements include the ability to articulate and comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to read the English language.

+ Has the ability to lead meetings that stay on track and move everyone into action.
+ Generate reports for various departments, resolves issues on inpatient enhanced worklists in Soarian Financials-investigating cancelled charges/visits using Cerner Millennium.
+ Research new product lines when informed by departments of new technology
+ Build effective relationships and collaborate with medical staff to ensure the documentation supports the proper diagnosis for inpatient and outpatient encounters
+ Ensure timely reporting to NYS DOH Birth Defects Registry of required submission following DOH guidelines of reporting. Complete DOH BDR audits timely as well as SPARCS audits.
+ Maintain UDS/Clintegrity databases to include DRG/Code Updates, Provider database-work with DataGen who oversees these databases to resolve issues with interfaces.
+ Manage and perform external and internal coding audits on outpatient/inpatient coding staff (contract staff and internal staff).
+ Collaborate and identify issues pertaining to Case Management medical necessity/inpatient denials.
+ Consult on any other coding issues as needed

Salary Range: $36.07-54.10 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
