Facility Engineering Manager
Overview The Facility Engineering Manager manages issues related to various preventative and reactionary maintenance to ensure the efficient operation of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems for all Sprouts’ stores and facilities. This position will collaborate with various departments across the organization and manage external trades and vendors to ensure maintenance procedures are completed in a timely and effective manner. It is essential that this position will develop efficiencies and process improvements focusing on property operations, service contracts, and financial management. Overview of Responsibilities Essential job functions Coordinates, manages and directs ongoing repairs and maintenance with both internal and external partners, to ensure continuous operation of Sprouts stores and facilities. Responsible for building and equipment repairs, including HVAC, refrigeration, floor care, roofs, fire sprinkler systems, security systems, electrical, plumbing, lighting, food production equipment, common area, and landscaping; also has oversight of waste hauling, recycling, pest control, and janitorial/sanitation supply programs. Makes complex maintenance decisions after gathering intricate details, analyzing data and investigating situations with the goal of resolving issues that impact customers and stores, or facilities and employees, while balancing fiscal responsibilities; Collaborates with Architecture, Engineering and Construction teams to develop go-forward strategies to resolve complex problems. Reacts quickly and to issues involving store operations, requiring flexibility, patience and attention to detail. Provides direction to Facility Coordinators, store personnel and vendors, effectively communicating decisions and timelines, often to a highly passionate audience in order to quickly resolve all issues. Work closely with the Real Estate, Construction departments to determine whether needed repairs are covered under lease agreements or warranty periods prior to coordinating work; responsible for incorporating new stores into the maintenance model. Identifies repair and maintenance work needed; and managing maintenance/vendor personnel to perform preventative and reactionary maintenance, equipment installation, and facilities equipment repair. Inspect and evaluate physical facilities and property pursuant to lease terms. Support operational planning through technical expertise, process efficiencies and leading change through the development of standardized SOP’s, RACI’s, quote reviews, invoice revies, change order management, etc.. Oversee vendor management including SLA/KPI creation and adherence, tracking, quality control, and administrative compliance. Responsible for and coordinating, scheduling and directing vendors at a tactical level to resolve maintenance and repairs issues. Conducts quality assurance checks and manages the overall activities of projects from start to finish; ensures work has been performed in a proper and professional manner. Negotiates repair and maintenance work to be performed; measures performance of needed work against assigned budgets and quality standards; reviews invoices against work performed and ensures amounts are correct. Responsible for managing a regional repair and maintenance budget within context of an overall national budget. Maintains effective on-going internal customer and vendor relations. Works with Loss Prevention and Compliance on correcting unsafe, dangerous or hazards. Ensures compliance with required local and state laws and regulations that pertain to each location. Responsible for mentoring, developing, and providing direction to Facility Coordinators and creating an environment of teamwork, co-operation, and performance excellence. Able to respond to emergent situations and support disaster response efforts. Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge Skills & Abilities 8-10 years’ experience in maintenance management that includes supermarket or restaurant facility engineering maintenance and a bachelor's degree in business or management preferred; or an acceptable combination of experience and education. Strong multi-tasker with the ability to effectively handle multiple projects and/or issues at one time. Hands on experience with using facilities work order management systems to track, update and resolve issues. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Extensive knowledge of facilities and associated equipment. Extensive knowledge of refrigeration, energy management systems, building control/automation systems and monitoring systems. Basic understanding of bill processing, auditing and basic accounting (to include budget building). Prior multiple-location management experience preferred. Strong mechanical background, including in-depth knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems and general building maintenance and repair. Must have the ability to exercise sound independent judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with leadership, employees, vendors, and coworkers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Clearly sets expectations and communicates expectations in a concise, direct and empathetic manner. Must be able to demonstrate strong analytical and problem resolution skills. Effective organizational & time management skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Must have the ability to travel within market/region up to 25% of the time.
