Location Description Post Consumer Brands in Battle Creek, Mich., the cereal capital of the U.S., is the company's largest manufacturing plant and home to about 600 team members. When you join the team here, you'll be helping to produce some of the most iconic cereal brands, including Honey Bunches of Oats cereal, PEBBLES cereal, Grape-Nuts and Honeycomb cereal. The Battle Creek plant is also unique as it is home to the original barn where C.W. Post started the Postum cereal company in 1895. The Battle Creek team has deep community roots, supporting the city's Cereal Festival, local elementary schools, and hosting several on-site volunteer events throughout the year. Responsibilities The Facility Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the effective execution of all maintenance and assigned projects in the facility. They are responsible for the efficient and effective use of all personnel and resources under their supervision. The Facility Maintenance Supervisor is also responsible for developing the technicians under their leadership into a well-trained and committed maintenance team. In addition, the Facility Maintenance Supervisor provides equipment related expertise and technical guidance to their team and others. Once a job has been prepared, the Facility Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for job execution where direction becomes a critical factor. The technicians must know job details, how it is to be performed, and what is expected of them. The Supervisor is responsible for conveying these elements and is ultimately responsible for successful work effort. JOB ACTIVITIES / DUTIES Responsible for control of job execution: Directs technicians in the performance of approved maintenance work. Controls quality, duration, cost, and thoroughness of all work under the Supervisor’s jurisdiction. Reviews planned job packages for completeness and correctness. Reviews safety requirements and points out any potential job hazards. Confirms the proper number and skill makeups of technicians assigned to each job. Assures that necessary tools, materials and equipment are available. Ensures that all jobs have a valid work order assigned. Requests overtime approval when needed and makes overtime assignments in accordance with plant policy. Ensures the prompt assignment of technicians to specific jobs at the beginning of the shift and throughout the day. Reviews jobs in progress to ensure that technicians do not encounter any unnecessary delays. Ensures that good housekeeping, GMP Policies, and safe work practices are being followed. Controls time lost between jobs, at breaks, and shift changes. Reassigns crew and arranges for materials and equipment to accommodate unforeseen/unscheduled conditions. Maintains frequent communications with the Operations Maintenance Coordinator and Maintenance Planner. Responsible for following up on completed work: Confirms that all required work has been completed. Assures that work performed meets quality specifications and precision standards. Assures that employees have left the job site clean and in a safe working condition. Coordinates shift turnover activities when jobs span multiple shifts. Assures that all time and material are charged to the correct work order and that all closing codes are documented. Assures acceptance from operations that work is complete. Ensures that work orders are created for any follow-up work needed. Returns completed work orders, feedback forms, and planned job packages to the Planner for refinement. If the completed work requires Change Management documentation, ensure that all technical information (drawings, BOMs, equipment specification data, etc.) is returned to the proper personnel for update. Responsible for training and motivation of assigned technicians: Makes job assignments as necessary to increase the breadth of experience of each technician. Enforce all Post Consumer Brands policies and procedures including Post safety and risk management policies, OSHA regulations, and any other that apply. Regularly hold safety and plant policy update meetings with direct reports. Provide direct feedback and coaching to employees concerning the performance of job responsibilities. Hold subordinates accountable on all aspects of job performance and behavior. Attends the Daily Approval, Weekly Scheduling, and Daily Scheduling meetings with the OMC and Planner Advises the Reliability Engineer of equipment consuming excessive resources. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: Associate degree (or equivalent work experience) in Technical or Manufacturing discipline required. BS/BA preferred. Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT) or similar preferred. Experience: Fundamental understanding of plant production and packaging processes. Experience with Microsoft Office products. 3+ years of Engineering or Maintenance experience in a food processing plant environment preferred. 5+ years using CMMS systems. Infor EAM experience is desirable. Knowledge of maintenance management principles including but not limited to precision maintenance, preventive maintenance, root cause failure analysis, shutdown and contingency planning; desire to work with maintenance disciplines as a team. 3+ years of Supervisory experience, preferably in Maintenance. Competencies: Mechanical and electrical aptitude, strong analytical skills, and ability to apply learned concepts a must. Demonstrated follow-up skills. Demonstrated skills to address process opportunities and make sustainable improvements. Demonstrated commitment to meet deadlines. Strong verbal and written communication skills Skills: Must be self-driven, organized and be able to work in a fast-paced team environment. Ability to influence broadly across location to drive results. Ability to manage moderate scope change initiatives. Ability to work with multiple priorities and prioritize work. Ability to teach and train new employees. Responsible for accurate and timely completion of assigned work. JOB ACCOUNTABILITY Work Structure: Works under general guidance of the Maintenance Management staff. Work is highly independent and collaborative in nature. Supervises team of maintenance technicians. Travel: Typically, travel is minimal, 15% or less.
