No County Genesee Street Address New York State School for the Blind City Batavia State NY Zip Code 14020 Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Facility Operations Assistant 1 position at the New York State School for the Blind. The Facility Operations Assistant 1 performs a variety of routine manual tasks, requiring medium to heavy physical effort. The incumbent may also assist in operations by performing routine activities; may frequently work outdoors in inclement weather; may use hand tools and operate motor driven equipment. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be physically able to perform the duties assigned, including the ability to perform activities requiring medium to heavy lifting. Candidates must also possess a valid New York State driver’s license. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and other staff;• Ability to work both as a team member and independently as required by the assignment; and• Additional skills in maintenance trades. Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. Fees associated with fingerprinting do not apply if applicant’s fingerprints exist in the NYS TEACH System. Candidates are required to possess a valid NYS Driver’s License at the time of hire. Continued employment as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 is dependent upon maintaining valid NYS Driver’s License. Failure to maintain valid NYS Driver’s License will result in removal from employment. This will be a 12-month position.
