Facility Operations Specialist
Summary This position is located at the Beltsville Area Research Center (BARC) at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Henry A. Wallace Beltsville Area Research Center (the Location), Beltsville, Maryland. In this position, you will provide technical support and advice on the maintenance and operations of fire systems, ensuring fire systems are functional and in good condition. Responsibilities Serves as the Facilities Division’s point of contact for ARS personnel in response to emergency notifications from fire and police regarding incident and the required entry of federal facilities for investigation and action. Develops and maintains periodic, annual, and long-range standard operation and maintenance procedures for the BARC campus buildings and associated facilities. Develops courses of action for the efficient use of facility assets to support the needs of the research. Monitors work orders generated from Maximo and establishes a work order tracking system with priority level categories. Tests required systems and new construction projects for operation and safety. Serves as fire safety manager for the complex overseeing construction and maintenance operations as relates to ventilation, fume hoods, specialized building gas systems, refrigeration systems and fire safety systems. GS-11: Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-11 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-09 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience ensuring fire systems are functional and in proper condition; monitoring a work order tracking system to prioritize emergency maintenance; and reviewing quality of work performed and compliance with standards. OR Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.M., if related. Related degrees include engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration. OR A combination of specialized experience and Ph.D. education as described above. GS-12: Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience overseeing construction and maintenance operations of fire safety systems; preparing statements of work (SOW) for facility modifications or repair & maintenance projects; and coordinating with contracting staff to ensure projects are completed according to standards. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
