This position performs various tasks independently or in coordination with a tradesman. Key responsibilities include semi-skilled mechanical, electrical, plumbing and construction functions, as well as maintenance and preventive maintenance functions. Tasks may be assigned depending on the workers training and skill capabilities. Independent judgment is required for handling details of each job.\n
\n

Roles and Responsibilities:\n

Safety\n\nDemonstrates an understanding of emergency procedures, fire drills, evacuation procedures, and internal\/external disaster procedures, as outlined in the fire safety policy, knows personal role in the event of a fire while on duty.\nProvides a safe environment; demonstrates alertness to areas needing attention in avoiding unsafe conditions such as but not limited to wet flooring, blocked egress areas etc.\nMaintains work area in a clean and safe manner on a daily basis.\nAlways wears all personal protective equipment when required.\nCarries out duties in a safe professional manner, with focus on customer service as a high priority. Exceeds: No substantiated complaints from patients, physicians, staff & visitors.\nAbility to use the Life Safety Drawings to identify smoke and fire barrier construction throughout the facility.\nAnticipates potential and environmental safety hazards and takes appropriate actions.\nUses proper lifting techniques when appropriate.\nAssures proper machine guards are in place.\nUnderstands and able to use the departments lock out tag out system for equipment under repair.\n\n
\n

Emergency Response\n\nAvailability for on call duty when \/ as required.\nWorks additional hours if required, including occasional shift changes due to work assignments. Exceeds: on occasion voluntarily offers to change primary work schedule to accommodate work assigned.\nParticipates in availability for unscheduled Emergencies when they occur.\nParticipates in Facilities On - Call Weekly Program (candidates hired after 2020).\n\n
\n

Systems & Equipment Maintenance\n\nPerforms preventive maintenance on designated hospital equipment.\nChanges medical compressed gas cylinders when needed.\nPerforms basic plumbing tasks. Exceeds: Performs more complex tasks under the direction of the plumber.\nPerforms basic electrical tasks. Exceeds: Performs more complex tasks under the direction of the electrician.\nPerforms basic carpentry tasks. Exceeds: Performs more complex tasks under the direction of the Carpenter.\nPerforms basic hvac tasks. Exceeds: Performs more complex tasks under the direction of the hvac technician.\nInstalls new equipment in accordance with manufactures and CMC system standards.\nAssembles fixtures and furniture.\nPerforms PM Inspections as directed by the Facility Manager. Exceeds: Ensures all TJC scheduled inspections as assigned are completed on time.\nInstalls Filters in all types of HVAC equipment. Exceeds: keeps track of inventory and maintains compliance.\n\n

Facilities Support \n\nMaintains tools, inventory, and equipment.\nAssists other members of department with performing required duties.\nPerforms other duties as assigned.\nHelps to move furniture and other designated pieces of equipment.\n\n
\n

Information Management \n\nAccurately uses the hospital information system to enter and retrieve maintenance related data.\nDemonstrates knowledge of the work order system.\n\n
\n

Required Skills and Experience:\n\nHS Diploma or equivalent experience\nThe candidate should have a minimum of one year experience as a handyman helper or laborer in mechanical or construction trades. This includes the ability to perform all types of maintenance and minor construction functions and should understand the terminology. \n\n

Physical Requirements:\n\nThis position requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Requirements also include climbing, bending, and the ability to get into tight spaces while working off a ladder.\n\n

Location and Travel Requirements:\n\nOnsite \nMain Campus - CMC 101 Dates Drive, Ithaca, NY, 14850\nPeriodic travel to other facilities can be expected in this role\n\n
\n

Pay Range Disclosure:\n\n$22 to $24.50 per hour\n\n
\n
