Position Summary:
The College of Western Idaho seeks qualified adjunct instructors to teach in its Surgical First Assistant (SFA) program. This position requires a strong understanding of surgical principles and techniques, excellent teaching and communication skills, and the ability to effectively facilitate online learning and in-person laboratory sessions.
Essential Functions:
Instruction:
• Develop and deliver engaging online lectures and interactive learning experiences.
• Design and conduct laboratory sessions, including hands-on skills training, simulations, and cadaveric dissections.
• Assess student learning through exams, quizzes, assignments, and clinical evaluations.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their academic progress.
• Maintain accurate student records and submit grades promptly.
• Participate in program curriculum development and review.
Student Support:
• Advise students on academic and career-related matters.
• Foster a positive and supportive learning environment.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students.
Professional Development:
• Maintain current knowledge of surgical first assisting and best practices in education.
• Participate in professional development activities, such as workshops and conferences.
• Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
• Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification awarded by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), CSA certification awarded by the National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA), or be a licensed physician certified in a surgical specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
• 2 years of documented work experience as a surgical first assistant (may count documented work experience as a surgical assisting instructor for 1 year of documented work experience) all within the last 5 years).
• An associate’s degree in Surgical Technology from a CAAHEP accredited program AND a minimum of a certificate in Surgical First Assisting from a CAAHEP accredited program.
Additional Instructions for Applicants:
Successful candidates are required to reside in Idaho by the first day of work for the College of Western Idaho.
