The Adjunct Instructor works with the Program Chair and Lead Course Instructor to teach program courses. The Adjunct Instructor is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion and advises and supervises master’s degree candidates, actively participates in faculty collaborative learning, and demonstrates scholarly productivity.
ResponsibilitiesTeach graduate course sections (on campus and online) in one or more of the following areas:
child/adolescent development;assessment;teaching students with disabilities;literacy instruction;mathematics and science instruction;educational technology;history and philosophy of general and special education;arts and social studies
Courses are pre-designed in a standard format. Participation in an Adjunct/Full Time Instructors’ Learning Community is expected.
May supervise candidates during clinical practice.
Support program advisement for candidates.
Uphold the missions and values of Touro College and the GSE.
Qualifications Masters Degree required, earned doctorate preferred, in Curriculum, Instruction, Special Education, or related fieldCurrent certification in Special EducationSuccessful classroom teaching experience, grades 7 - 12, of diverse studentsSuccessful graduate-level teaching experience, face-to-face and/or onlineSuccessful leadership experienceExperience in course and program designSuccessful experience supervising degree candidates in clinical field placements, if assigned for clinical supervisionCommitment to culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogyKnowledge of NYSED teacher certification examinations
Skills
Excellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal skillsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, OutlookProficiency in online learning platforms including Canvas and Zoom
Travel
Occasional travel to Program Meetings at Touro College locations.
