About the Statistics and Data Science Department
Statistics and Data Science (SDS) is a joint department with three participating colleges including ILR, CALS and Bowers CIS as the lead dean. The department combines the traditional tools of statistics, a solid foundation in probability theory, and the skills of computer science into a single, radically collaborative department. The department offers undergraduate degrees in Biometry through CALS and Statistics and Statistical Science through the College of Arts and Sciences, and minor degrees in Data Science and Actuarial Science. A master’s in applied Statistics and Data Science and a PhD graduate degree program. It is home of the Field of Statistics and is also closely associated with and oversees the Cornell Statistical Consulting Unit.
The Opportunity
The Statistics and Data Science department is seeking a customer-service driven and collaborative professional to serve as our Faculty Course Support Specialist. In this role, you will provide specialized course support and administrative assistance to faculty, lecturers, post-docs, visitors, and the Statistical Consulting Unit. This role requires a high level of confidentiality, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive course management support, including:
Preparing course materials
Maintaining Canvas sites and Student Disability Services systems
Coordinating exam sessions, TA meetings, and review sessions
Managing academic integrity cases and special needs accommodations
Coordinate complex travel arrangements and process reimbursements
Handle business-related procurement requests
Prepare correspondence, reports, and other materials with discretion
Support and serve as a backup to the Assistant to the Chair
Conduct the department’s annual Facilities Inventory process
Serve as the Capital Asset representative for the department
This is a full-time (39 hours/week) Contract College position that is based in Ithaca, NY. This position follows a 3:2 campus-to-home hybrid work arrangement after a period of orientation and training. This hybrid work arrangement is subject to change at any time. Work hours are 8am-4:30pm Monday through Thursday and 8am-3:30pm on Fridays.
What You Need

Hold an Associate’s degree and 2 to 4 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
Have experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Utilize excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Be detail-oriented and demonstrate sound judgment.

Demonstrate ability to work independently, problem solve and as a member of a team.
Work effectively with a diverse group of individuals including faculty, staff, students and visitors.
Project a professional image and demonstrate the ability to diplomatically handle a wide variety of situations.
Be technically adept using a variety of business or technical programs to complete information management or production tasks. (Microsoft suite, OBIEE, Faculty Center, Course Management System, Ed Discussions, Slack, etc.). Familiarity with Cornell financial systems (ex: Concur, PCards
If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include:
Bachelor’s degree. Advanced knowledge of Cornell systems and procurement policies strongly preferred.
Advanced knowledge of Cornell systems including Faculty Center, Gradescope and Canvas. Familiarity with procurement and travel policies is strongly preferred. Familiarity with Cornell financial systems (ex. Concur, Procurement, eShop, OBIEE).

Rewards and Benefits
This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role
remotely 2 days per week and on-campus 3 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.
This position is based in Ithaca, New York. Employees who work remotely may receive
multiple W-2 Forms depending on their work location. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholding for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside of New York State.
