JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Penn State’s university-wide center for teaching and learning (CTL), the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence (SITE), has an opening for an early career Faculty/Educational Developer G eneralist . This is a 12-month, continuing, full-time faculty appointment, with the opportunity to advance in rank. SITE faculty work in-person as do other Penn State faculty. The salary range is $65,000-$75,000, depending on experience.
Penn State is a multi-campus university with over 7200 full-time faculty and 1500 part-time instructors who teach nearly 90,000 students at 24 campuses. The Schreyer Institute is based at the University Park campus in State College, PA, but works with instructors across Penn State’s campuses; SITE faculty are expected to occasionally travel to other Penn State campuses. SITE also serves a large graduate student population and works closely with academic administrators.
Responsibilities of the position:
+ Collaborate with a variety of faculty and academic units to develop and review learning activities, student feedback, and assessments
+ Design and facilitate workshops, short courses, and other teaching and learning programming
+ Conduct consultations with faculty, graduate students, and administrators
+ Expand the Schreyer Institute’s outreach to Penn State faculty and administrators
+ Develop materials and resources that encourage use of effective instruction and assessment practices
+ Collaborate with Schreyer Institute faculty consultants to design and implement SITE offerings
Requirements:
+ Experience teaching college or university courses
+ Ability to work with groups and individuals to improve teaching and learning
+ Experience working with a teaching center (or similar program)
+ Ability to adapt to different instructional contexts
+ Excellent communicative, collaborative, and interpersonal skills
+ Contributor who is proactive, diligent, and able to reflect on their practice
Preferred:
+ Willingness to contribute ideas and bring new perspectives to the work
+ Experience working with faculty or graduate students to improve their teaching effectiveness
+ Knowledge of issues faced by members of groups historically excluded from or underrepresented in higher education
+ Ability to apply learning and faculty development literatures to create experiences and resources
Academic Expectations of the Position:
+ Academic competence and credibility
+ Substantive contributions to the Schreyer Institute's activities
+ Contributions to national organizations focused on post-secondary teaching and learning through conference presentations or publications
Degree Qualification:
Minimum degree: master's. Ph.D. or terminal degree preferred. Your degree must be conferred before an offer can be made. If you have not yet defended, please indicate your defense date in your cover letter.
