The Family Advocate identifies the non-offending caregiver's most urgent needs for the family and guides the caregiver toward healthy decision making. S/he assists in ensuring the physical safety of the child, educates the caregivers on their roles, empowers the non-offending caregiver to rebuild a safe and stable home, and connects the caregiver with supportive networks/counseling.

Responsibilities

Patient Care

Demonstrates the ability to relate to children, adults, and adults with cognitive delays who have directly or indirectly experienced physical and sexual abuse, sex trafficking, or witnessed a crime.Demonstrates the ability to communicate with children in a comfortable and relaxed approach which is developmentally and culturally sensitive.Provides on-site supportive guidance, education, crisis intervention, and assistance with victim compensation filing.Demonstrates compassion and empathy to assist with the healing process.Refers to additional resources needed by victims and their families (victim advocacy, counseling and community services).Collaborates with child's therapist discussing goals and objectives for the family.Serves as a liaison between families and other support systems and community agencies.

 

Documentation

Maintains accurate records documenting VOCA services, referrals and feedback about the quality of referral sources.

 

Education

Provides educational presentations to heighten awareness of services available for potential victims.Develops and maintains a current list of referral facilities and resources for counseling and victim services for Northern Arizona.Provides information about victim rights, assessment of needs, and information regarding normal reactions after disclosure and managing stress.Participates in the improvement of community collaboration and response to child maltreatment.

 

Compliance/Safety

Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety-related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employee's area of responsibility.If required for the position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.Completes all company mandatory modules and required job-specific training in the specified time frame. Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field- Required

Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field- Preferred

 

Certification & Licensures

Licensed in Social Work or Psychology- Preferred

Fingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon hire

Fingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of hire

 

Experience

5 years of experience working with children with 3 years in child maltreatment- Preferred
