Job Vacancy Program: Head Start/ECS Location: TBD Position: Family Care Advocate Hours: 37.5 hrs / 48wk Salary Range: $34,959 - $43,699 Salary Grade: 11 Summary of Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Head Start/ECS Center Director, the Family Care Advocate is responsible for the effective implementation of services and activities outlined under Head Start and Early Head Start Relationship-Based Competencies that support family development/engagement. Qualifications/Education and Experience: + Associates Degree required (60 Credit Hours of college courses) in Human Services, Family Development, Family Counseling, Social Services or an equivalent field. Requires a minimum of two (2) yrs. of direct experience working with children/families in human service. + Must be knowledgeable and have experience in assessing the care and treatment of children, birth through 5 years of age. + Requires certification for Infant/ Child CPR, First Aid and Medication Administration. + Must have the ability to complete the Family Development Credential program within 18 months of employment; and must be willing to attend recommended training, coursework, related instruction and research to increase skills and knowledge/ skills in a specified timeframe. + Must be attentive to details; have strong administrative, analytical, negotiations and problem solving skills; must have good organizational & planning skills. + Requires experience in conducting community outreach/recruitment, screening assessments and intake process. + Requires the ability to recognize support networks and to work with families to ensure child/ family safety and wellness. + Must have strongly developed interpersonal and customer service skills; requires strong oral, written communication, and good facilitation skills; must maintain respect for cultural backgrounds and practices of employees/consumers. + Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Office products. Familiarity with H.S. database, including COPA is a major plus. + Requires the health and physical capability to work in an office, classroom, residential and/or community settings. + Must be able to lift children weighing up to 40 lbs. + Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. All employees of ABC-Head Start/ECS Division must receive and maintain, full clearance from the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), the NYS Central Registry (SCR), and the Justice Center of New York, that allows them unsupervised contact with children.
