Family Development Specialist
Job Summary The Family Development Specialist is responsible for the certification, licensing, and recertification of qualified foster families to temporary care for children placed in foster care. About Abbott House Abbott House is an innovative community-based organization that helps children, families, adults and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with complex needs build lasting foundations for a promising future. We operate programs in the New York Metropolitan area and Hudson Valley. Key Responsibilities + Responsible for handling telephone inquiries, sending information and application packets, and processing the returning applications for Foster Boarding Home and Therapeutic Foster Boarding Home programs. + Responsible for comprehensive knowledge of OCFS foster care regulations. + Responsible for traveling to homes throughout the upper Counties to interview individuals and families as part of the home study process. Home studies are conducted for regular recruited foster homes and Kinship (relative) homes. + Conduct fire and health safety inspections and writing comprehensive home study reports while on home visits. + Be familiar with NYS Connections record keeping computer program and keep all entries current and updated. + Work with the intra-agency ASARA and OCFS Benti system for all record keeping on our foster parents. + Responsible for tracking and monitoring various compliance duties. (i.e. : fingerprinting , State Central Registry clearances, safety assessments, re-authorization procedure, medical report submissions, etc.) + Create and maintain the ‘6-section home finding case file’ for each active foster parent and family including all required documentation in accordance with NYS regulations. + Conduct the initial certification foster parent training and certification training for applicants. + Conduct quarterly foster parenting commitment courses for re-certification purposes. + Recruit prospective foster parents by traveling to targeted areas + Conduct Abbott House presentations, and attend community meetings and events, etc. + Conduct annual re-certification home visits to extend foster parenting licensing for an additional year. + Attend all staff meetings, trainings and supervision sessions. + Perform all necessary activities assigned to ensure success of the program and further the agency’s mission and vision.
